Why did you pick your first ever class/character/realm

I picked a pally hoping once they got high level they would become some uber godlike class "like paladins in Bards Tale turn into Destiny Knights" :)

Picked alb coz it had Highlanders, was very tempted by midgard tho, THE GLORY OF ODIN did appeal compared to the poxy churches in albion

im a student
my first class was a BM called shaw. i picked hibernia because i previously played diablo 2 and alot of the guild i was part of left D2 for DAOC and started on hibernia, i figured even though they were playing on US and i was playing on Europe, hibernia would still be a good choice (anything but albion, i figured that all the idiots would pick albion because of the game name, its like picking mario as first character on mario cart) :rolleyes: i think i was right! (no offence)

Cos i think its a great game even tho some things should be different :)

Studying too :)

First char was an armsman! My brother had just told me about this great game that i could get for free tho its only a beta - and i picked Arms due to it being easy to begin with :) was a Arms(Cupid) after release to then after beingin lvl 50 for 6months or so i started on Aybabtu which is my #1 char atm :)

because I fell in love with mmog's thanks to Anarchy Online, and this seemed like the game I was waiting for all my life :)

I work in tech support

a Troll Zerker. being able to wield to axes was teh win, I thought :)
my first serious character was a healer, tho I can't remember why.

yea.. was actually a bad example!umm ok err .. let me think of a new 1... i have sat here for 5mins and i cant think of a good example ....ill edit this when i think of 1 (wario owns in N64 mario kart, didnt play SNES version much)

edit: its like picking Ryu or Ken as your character in street fighter. woot got 1

Finally got a decent net con in my flat (cable, bt's dial up was poo tbh) and was after a decent online game to play it with. Had been playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein but i always loved rpgs. So i went for the mmorpg that was getting good reviews at the time and was just about to be released.


What do you do?
Filthy Student and partime barperson (need money to feed my many habits :p)

Why did you pick your first ever class/character/realm
Always liked to play the mage in rpg's so went for Hibernia, the magic realm. Picked eldritch as they were supposed to be the pure caster class of hib, and went void as it was the defining line of an eld i thought, and was supposed to be the pure dmg line. Damn i was such a n00b. :p

My mate had a hunter and I thought they were pretty cool. But with the flemish lions guild on albion, I shoose a scout because they were archers to.

Got a decent broadband connection and wanted to start a fresh game, not one that had been around for ages like EQ or UO, my friend chose DAOC and so 3 of us played it from european release. One quit after 2 weeks, one after 6 months, but I still wub it :)

What do you do?
I used to program and design RPGS and special effects for a living, worked for what used to be Gremlin Graphics/Interactive and then got bought out by the french and made redudant :/ Now I just play daoc and eat, smoke and drink as much as humanly possible till my redudancy runs out and I have to go looking for a job again!

Pretty much the same reasons as lessurl above. I looked at the specs on paper and thought wow the void eld can do loads of damage miles away with those bolts, that sounds the class for me ! :)

father put me in a bag and dropped me in a river, after that i worked in a saltmine for 10 year. i spent all my savings on a comp and stole a copy of daoc because it was on the lowest shelf in the store and had a hammer on the casing.

right now i sleep,eat and play daoc.

I started with a thane in beta, then started a sb in retail cause they could oneshot yellowcons in RvR. after that i played a healer and RM, deleted due to addiction problems, bought the game again a few months later and lvled a savage and 2 healers (second isnt 50 yet tho).

Why did you pick your first ever class/character/realm

I played the beta at a few pals, always a troll... in the realm of Midgard ofc, and I enjoyed em couse they were big and stlong men! got it to lvl 3 and thought it was soooo coool that frogs could drop legs outside galplen.
then, like... eeh sometime later after the beta atleast, I got some muney and bought it... made a tall troll called Moil who on lvl 5 got the proffesion Skald, he ranned fast and I enjoyed it until lvl 11 when I saw on his spec and I said :: fuck this, this char is screwed up!
I made another big troll with another face style and named him Move, duno why I thought he should be a skald but no... warrior it is... and then he became a stlong walliol...
enjoyed it? hopefully not... byebye... or something... wtf... im tired.... ZzzZZz

oh... Schinkaar, you are an REAL addict ^^

wanted to be drunken pally.
and that was about it, now i wish i would chosen something else, because so bored to this shit fuck game, waiting SWG to drop from mail box. and also waiting WOW beta to start

Well like 50% of the player base from Legend of Mir left mir to play daoc beta, so i went with teh flow

Why did you pick your first ever class/character/realm?

Heh, my first char in beta was a saracen mage, with +2 to every stat, whom i tried to nuke mobs with af shield with, so i thought fuck it, this class sucks. Rolled norse warr with sw00d spec and got him to 27 + 2358092389 other chars in all 3 realms (the beta syndrome still bares with me ;| )

Wanted to play hib champ in retail, but ended up in mid as i had ingame mates there ;|

He started US daoc alone, he got me and 6 rl-mates hooked and we all started together on euro when it went live, he made me (indirectly) make a zerker.

the reason I made a zerker was because he had one on US, and he told me such a vivid story of how he and his group ran into an alb zerg and he 2hit a purple mage that there was no alternative for me :D

It was pretty tough though when we lvled because I think he lied to me, because everytime I asked him how much dmg he did on a given mob, he always seemed to do more then me, so I thought I was giving up speed and chain and dd's and mezz etc for studded and crap dmg and NO utility or ranged :p
Turns out I was wrong though, and im damn glad I stuck with Arnor :)


edit: we played beta too, though on albion, since the knighty thingy looked cool and because we KNEW we were gonna play mid on release. I was an armsman. only got to lvl 12 before it went live though, we started late and had a gimp group ^^


ps: im a student, though with 2 years wasted more or less bc of daoc and me being a lazy dude without goals or determination :p

Well, i was trying out the game at beta stage. a friend who installed it before me had chosen hibernia cus he wanted to be uberc00l elite mage.. so i kinda picked it to play with him. noticed that u could play bard so there was no reason to hetistate. So a lvl 6 bard with no idea about how to equip instrument was the first char i had.. when retail came i rolled SB and played with friends in mid.. But at lvl 20 i deleted and rolled back to hib and bard :)

Why did you pick your first ever class/character/realm Before DAoC I was a hardcore FPS player and I used to specialise in rocket launchers, so a fire wizard seemed the logical choice.

toad / yoshi > all btw

Why...cause I luv the community spirit and its a great game :)
What....telecomms / networks engineer for the NHS - eat drink sleep etc etc
Why....cause my m8s from other games like CS and PA came to Mid, chose Thane cause i thought he would be the best char for a viking realm (how wrong i was). Hib chars are damn ugly, and albs have bad attitudes and lots of kiddies.

Aaaah yes why am i here. Well saw the game at one of my friends one day and kinda fell in love with it at once. Went out and spendt all my money on a internet connection and the game. Wanted to play with my friends so started in Albion, was kinda fun, played around with them for a couple of days without telling them who i was.

Like most else i guess, is student, though unlike everyone else isnt studying computers ;)

Well since i allrdy knew i was going to play in Albion i kinda only looked at the characters there.
So i read through the manual and fell over the wizzards and especially the wind wizzards seemed really cool(manuall said they rocked) so i started an elementalist got to lvl 5 and didnt get to spec in wind, well fun i thought back to the manual.
Finally decided on ice wizzard, i wanted to get those root thingys(thought i had to spec to get them), well i spendt many hours being laughed at by fire wizzards(this was before anybody wanted PBAE) and still i waited to the chance to spec wind, well in my forties now, havent found the wind yet, but people are all of a sudden beginning to like me, guess that shower helped after all.

1. Because Daoc is the only MMORPG that has nice graphics and an actual reason to level.

2. Just finished meh A levels and am now looking forward to a year out with Camelot/Galaxies and copius amounts of sleep/drink/weed to help me along. :D

3. I picked a Paladin cus i like things that make pretty magic.

Started my mercenary, highlander because I thought of a cool name which happened to be highland... shame it was already taken so I stuck "iel" on the end of it. (hey it's better than Fingonx)

Merc because dual wielding sounded cool and I'd heard they were underpowered - I like the underdogs ;)

Picked Midgard cause i am from Sweden Norse mithology is right up my allie,, the places in midgard r mostly swedish names 2 =) Svealand etc etc.. also Troll cause they r cool, and Skald cause i wanna be a fast rvrer.

Cause EA screwed ultima up badly.

Student at De Montfort University leicester Uk

Scout as i played an archer mage in Ultima, but then changed to smite cleric cause one of my old UO friends advised it.
