It's cheaper to go abroad, you will still have good weather at the end of sept for most of the med holiday destinations. The prices will be cheap as it's the end of the season.

You'll spend far more money staying in the UK.

I'd recommend Prague if you don't want a regular holiday type destination, ridiculously cheap and great for culture and history as well as going out.
