hehe scuse multi threads chaps!

Just wondering if anyone can recommend me anything/where to visit for MY VACATION!!! I have booked 5 days off end of sept-beginning of oct as it would have been ding 9yrs for the ez and b2 show, which got canned due to poor ratings... so I decided to bugger off for the time rather than sit in the delightful HQ feeling a bit sad and lonesome.

I might well be in Ross-on-Wye for a couple of days up to the 30th or 1st but then will be roamin' (only inside England though can't afford to go abroad!) and wondered if you guys could recommend something/places or any events that kick off around that time that are easy to get to.

I only have a very small budget (honstly really pathetic) and will have to travel by public transport so nothing expensive please lol!

And to go with my new found 'yes man' attitude I am open to unusual/outlandish suggestions...like those strange country fetes where they do nettle eating and things lol.

Many thanks if you can think of something, I shall be performing a bit of Googleology myself but many heads are better than one...unless we're talking acne in which case that's just vile!

Local can be just as expenisve these days though no ?

close to England you'd have Normandy, Amsterdam, Denmark...

If Scotland isnt too far ?
I can very much recommend Arran "for the quiet scenic touch"

Don't know if the cost is too much, and someone else might want to suggest this as EQ has me on ignore(i think), but there's paris.

From london to paris on the underwater tube or some such.

If you are in Ross on Wye -do Hereford -Lovely Cathedral -Mappa Mundi, and chained library... Museum opposite and nice gardens, or the Bulmers Cider Museum!

or Bourton on the Water -lovely quaint village, or pop to The Cotswolds- beautiful.

Lots to do in York, if you like history...plus most of the places are cheap or free to get in. Easily get-to-able by train, but staying over might cost a bit.

I second that York does have some really cool stuff to see and do.

We could organise a days meet up or something in York for Freddys folks and do a tour of all the cool places!!!

Great ideas thanks all! But when I say by budget is small its like £200 which has to cover accommodation too so you see what I mean?

OK stupid question time:

do you have to be a youth, or part of a group to stay in a hostel?

No Ez, me and my mates stayed in a youth hostel when we went to Dublin for New Year and stuff, you're just bunking with randoms.

I also stayed at the university halls at York after a night out on the town. Not sure whether they will have any free rooms because of the term times.

Fairfax house was the name of the place.

hostels are basically just a bed and a roof, don't expect anything more.

once you're done for the day, just head to your room and you'll probably find the others already asleep or still out, don't bother going there if you intend to do anything other than sleeping

If you can decide on somewhere NOW, you could book rooms for your stay at Travelodge because they have reduced prices for advanced booking.
Starting price is £19 per night if you book early enough.

Come stay with me in Leeds. I'm right out in the countryside and we've got a greyhound who'll cuddle you all day for... cuddles.

Or indeed... a FHOT tour of the UK!

lol Amanita greyhound cuddles ...and a rabbit warren to boot!! you sure are one lucky girl tbh! Actually I think a FHOT tour is in order but not on this trip, £200 isn't enough to accomplish that mission hehe.

What I am thinking though is, not in this order Cardiff for the Dr Who museum, herefordshire to see surprise family and oxford for the university natural history museum and see my Grandpa, so I have filled the following quotas: nerds, dinosaurs and family!

Anyone been to the Dr Who thing in Cardiff btw? would like to know if it is worth it.

I spent many half terms in and around Hereford with a mad 'Aunt' of mine. The Cathedral is indeed an amazing place to get to know plus plenty of other historical buildings there. One idea I would suggest is to look for old castles along the England Wales border, there must be over half a dozen, and you could go exploring them .... I have before now.

Ooo - I think* Ross on Wye also still has a museum of really old pianos and harpsichords - may be worth checking that out if you like old stuff :)

* ...well they did 35 years ago!
