For me, SGN2 (Samsung Galaxy Note 2).

Why? I want a phone with a stylus. I take lots of notes and prefer handwritten to trying to type onto smartphone keyboards that are just too damn small. Want a larger screen so I can see what I'm typing into web page forms without the on-screen keyboard taking up 80% of the screen. Bigger screen = better browsing, games, videos, documents, etc. Got lots of nice features from the SGS3 (eg pop up video). It'll run Jelly Bean straight out the box. The Note 2 has the fastest cell-phone processor (1.6 GHz quad core). OK, while it has a full HD screen, the dpi is a let down (260 odd).

I'll never get an iphone
Don't like Windows 8, so Microsoft can kiss my ass too.
Nokia are so far behind everyone else they're practically invisible.

If HTC bring out a stylus large screen cell phone with a 300+ dpi, quad core, I'd consider that too.

iPhone for me. It is pocket sized. 4, 4.1, 4.6 and 5 inch screens are too big for my taste. The Hardware on the 4s is solid, the fact there are Apple Stores makes warranties better than any other make out there. Applications are great they are well controlled and if you can see them you can instal them and they are compatible. Also for me the applications are better for the apps i have the iPhone ones are smoother and better performing than the Android alternatives.

As per the topic, and why?
More info required.

Budget
Are you invested in one app store already, by how much
Form factor, do you want a smaller phone to be just a phone/sms device or a larger phone to be a game/multimedia device.

At the moment i'm point most people towards One S for a smaller media device, the One X and S3 for a large media device.
If you want just a phone/sms/organiser then iPhone (i'd wait till the 5 comes out in a couple of months tho) or a One S.

I have a One S, i've wiped it and installed CM10 but the basic Sense is infact really good, once it gets moved onto JB it'll be even better.

Its small, light, i get 3 or 4 days of battery out of it between charges when only using it as a phone, if i use it for media it'll last a day and a half assuming i dont have the screen on 24/7

The OneX and S3 will get about the same battery life, but are both a bit bigger. Bigger screen, bigger storage.

If you can answer those questions tho can give more targeted responses :)

While my Samsung Galaxy SII is very good I will go back to HTC next time, wished I had got one instead of the SGII. I absolutely *hate* that the Samsung doesn't have a notification led on it, it is a pain in the AIDS having to unlock my phone everytime I want to see if I have a text/email. My previous phone was a HTC Desire and it was brilliant.

HTC One should receive your tartan loving G-larrington Smythe the Seventeenth of Shiny-Helmetshire.

Edit - iPhone/iTunes can CTFOADOA

I've got a Galaxy Nexus, I got it because I wanted a high end phone with vanilla Android and instant updates :)

If I didn't want instant updates, I'd get an HTC One of some sort - reason there is they're always very well built and the HTC software on the top of Android is lovely.

Yeah I gotta admit I miss little bits of the HTC Android overlay, but with all the custom ROMs available, you could have a different look & feel every day of the week (just don't expect everything to work ;) ... there is no such thing as a perfectly stable absolutely-everything-works-just-like-stock custom ROM)

I do quite like the look of the Note 2 tbh, will be interesting to see how much it's going to cost (I think I saw 640€ somewhere).

Aye, it ain't gonna be cheap. A year from now it will still be around the £500 mark. Hell, even the original note is going for £400 online.

It itches me to change my E52 for a Lumia 800... It's the phone i've recommended to 2 people so far and they've been very happy with it. Thing is, my sim is from my employer, so i don't have the luxury of getting a cheap phone for extending the contract or whatever. I'd have to fork the market value.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, works for me, keeps me entertained if I'm on a train etc. Download PS1/N64/Snes emulators and you can play with a real gamepad.110328122vx.jpg

I've got an S3 (and had S2 before that) and love it. JUst so bloody powerful and despite its size, not obtrusive in your pocket.

Just stay away from Apple or be known as the biggest bummer here.

I'm selling my S3, way to fragile. I don't think I would buy another Samsung the build quality is sub par compared to my HTC Desire. Lots of bad press about Gorilla Glass 2, also about the camera glass smashing (mine and friends included). Sometimes I think we all buy into the specs, this doesn't always makes for a pleasant user experience. I've heard that the Nokia Lumia's are an absolute joy to use *Shock* probably my next purchase. No aps? No care.

S3 for me, the improvement over the iphone for me is ridiculous. Screen, feel, camera, OS. Android has come on leaps and bounds since the Hero.
I don't find ios6 offers anything new that isn't on android already, and I can't see the iphone 5 being anything other than style over substance.
I'd never buy HTC again, hardware reliability and customer service is pap. Regardless the HTC one s and one x fail over the s3 as they don't have expandable storage.

Avoid Sony like the plague. The build quality is shocking. They feel cheap and they act cheap, I am on my 2nd Xperia play now in a year and this one is constantly restarting when you put it down, or move it, exactly the same fault as the last one.

It is the only phone with a proper control pad though and final fantasy 1-9 play flawlessly if that's your thing, plus most other decent PS1 titles along with pretty much all SNES and Megadrive games.

I loved my previous Samsung galaxy, my next phone will most probably be their latest - in 6 months or so.

Hardware reliability? now your talking pap. My Desire is almost 3years old, it was romed after a week or so and still going strong. I know you had your issues with customer service, and having not dealt with that myself, fair enough. Android has come on leaps and bounds but the S3 aint all that, see how you feel after a few months of use. As for iphone never owned one.

How accurate is the stylus when it comes to handwriting? Eg if I want to put a dot in the corner of a square, does it hit the mark, or miss it by half a cm? Can you alter the sensitivity / accuracy? Any issues with them sticking the stylus at the bottom of the device? Does it ever fall out?

Lamp, you know you can buy a Stylus right? and you can download various memo apps for your S2.

I've had two htc phones, both have failed, so that for me ruins the brand.

I've seen various reports about the screen, case issues on the s3, however I've not met anyone who has actually had these issues. As with all new phones a lot of teething issues which we'll probably never get confirmation from samsung on, and a lot of scaremongering. (not discounting that your's clearly had an issue though).

One thing I'd say is that the s3 and all the other android top end handsets are very thin, an iphone is thick and durable compared, and it's much easier to damage the top end android handsets through pressure or drops.

Just had a look. They're just replacements for your finger. The end's a large crude rubber blob, thats it. No good for note taking. Unless I've been looking at the wrong websites.

Have a look for a Nintendo DS stylus, they are cheap and should do the trick.

Enough to put anyone off. Durability is certainly an issue and worth considering before you decide on one of the high-end handsets. Phones get dropped, it's what happens sadly and you don't need to drop the S3 far.

That's what puts me off HTC, my Hero was ropey eventually with the battery eventually packing in (possibly the handset knackering the battery life).

I'm not sure about the S3, my mate has one but it really does feel like a plastic toy and it's not that nice.

Having owned several HTC phones it has been hit and miss my Desire was and is fine. My Sensation was a nightmare and 2 of them went back 5 times in total. Still better than Sony for me.

But still for reliability apps and software updates iOS leaves Android behind. I do not care about widgets so Android offers nothing over iOS.
