I'm not sure of the technology involved but yes, it is certainly do-able.

You'll find that stats services like Google Analytics can produced world maps of your visitor patterns, as does GVisit.

I've seen other instances where a country flag is assigned to posters.

I believe it's all derivable from the IP address.

The gVisit thing looks a bit primitive compared to what Freddy's is using, that looks way cooler - even though it's pretty much the same thing by the looks of it. :)

i did something like with PHP and GD once

it was a map that when clicked sent the co-ords to the PHP script that added a new red dot at said co-ords

i wonder if i still have it

Would be great if you did, I'd like to see how it works. I've sort of let PHP slip by the wayside for a while now.

I put the gVisit on the site anyway, says you have to wait 24 hours though so it's not that good. The Freddy's one says it has members and guests online, which is cool if it's true.

Well it didn't show my location but that could be the presence of the Big Brotheresque firewall I am probably behind.

For the All Members bit does it log your last known location or something?
