Where do you get your character names from?

My favorite source is the Dragon Lance Chronicles, but all of those names went a long, long time ago :(

I prefer classic Role Play names rather than more modern or silly ones, so where do you all get your names from?

I spent about three hours the other day trying different names - all taken :( In the end I had to use one from one of my old toons on Mid/Excal.

this game its a name associated with what my main character does .. Nuked - its silly but alot of the names i usually use were taken.

in other games i use the name Shaw or Ultimatum

short and sweet and not 2 crazy!

After I try 100 names (and get that "name already in use"), I usually make up a name that nobody would think of.
->Lariente (my necro), Agzuula (sorceress) and Cuchlan (reaver)

Same here... use your imagination, else you're never going to get a unique name. I think a name you made up yourself will help you get attached to your char...

Two things I'd never do: use a known fantasy character name (if you call yourself Frodo, well...) or, even worse, massacre a known fantasy character name because the original is already taken (I mean, Phrodo??). Of course, that's just me...

Book, film names revamped a bit if already take or muck about with latin :)

Another good idea is to spell your first name backwards - ekim = mike, evets = steve, nasus, etc etc

One of our guildies tells us his name is 'kiss my ass' in an obscure language ;)

erhm .. dunno .. sort of just popped into my mind :)

Greenfingers = a dude with the ability to grow stuff in a garden or something... (in danish: grønne fingre)
Tinny = was going for Tiny... but too late :(
Winny = wannabe look a like
Phreak = Freak .. but the cool way :)
Carlsvognen = a bunch of stars :p
Wunderbaum = lol, that funny looking, ugly smelling christmas tree that U put in your car
Worth = Worth aPenny ;)
Hotmamma = well .. says it all :D

I did have Zeus in the beta but some git already had it on Day1 of retail, I didnt get up till late so missed it :(
Hercules obv,
Pluto is the roman name for hades (underworld)
Palasgus was the first dude ever, in the palasgian stories (the chaps who roamed around greece b4 it was greece)
Jahova, coz Jehova was already taken, Hes the dude who needed a fence built around him incase some donkeys shat on him. jewish god.
I wanted Jebus but someone got that, from Simpsons :)
Any future names will be along the lines of trying to offend as many religious ppl as possible :) Got nothing gainst the greeks and roman dudes but the monotheistic lot can kiss my big fat hairy stinking arse. :)
I assume Allah Suicidebomber is already taken :D

Vorcyn is a caracter in one of the tales of the malazan book of the fallen

mine are from silmarillion, aule is basically the god of earth and crafts, kementari/yavanna (alternate names depending on which elves it is) his wife

Stormriders is teh bomb !!!

Have you seen the other two in the "trilogy", "A Man Called Hero" and "The Duel"

I say trilogy loosely as the films have nothing to do with each other apart from the fact they are made by same production company and all based on cult comics.

These films were Hong Kong box office smashes, raking in the numbers of viewers films like the Matrix etc get over here.

Recommned them to anyone who likes a bit of chop-socky action and over-the-top storylines with insane special effects.

Started withj Forky (played as fork for counter-strike), was bored and pissed off one day so made Fukwit, which for some reason people thought was offensive, so GOA made me change it. Zargar contacted me in-game and was in a rush, so after trying god knows how many names, Eggy was available. Wanky was next, got changed at level 31 (a record in my books), which I changed to Frequent (as in Frequent Friar...frequent flyer?), then Lanky kinda rhymed a bit.

My previous main char - RM: Humakt is from RuneQuest roleplaying game. My favourite God in the game :)

My SB: Salamurhaaja is Finnish and means assassin. It just popped in to my head.

Alithiel is the name of a sword from the Janny Wurts series Wars of Light and Shadow.

Xanetia is one of the Delphae from the David Eddings series The Tamuli

Leitha is from the David Eddings novel Redemption of Althalus

Vierna (my reaver) is named after Drizzt's sister (and Zaknafein's daughter) from the R A Salvatore Dark Elf series

I have various other alts named after characters from these, and other, series of books....

I also have a Cleric called Avellana... which is spanish for hazelnut! :p
