Cider! You're right, Damini, that has to be English.

When the Romans arrived in England in 55 BC, they were reported to have found the local Kentish villagers drinking a delicious cider-like beverage made from apples. It has been recorded that the Romans and in particular their leader, Julius Caesar, embraced the pleasant pursuit with enthusiasm! How long the locals had been making this apple drink, prior to the arrival of the Romans, is anybody’s guess.

ITS ENGLISH yay! lets all drink our good o british cider

Lets not? I seem to recall that drinking it when I was younger made me get off with freaks and puke up out of windows.

Hey! I am one of those freaks! 2-litre bottles of Strongbow or Woodpecker was great at those parties when I was 14/15.

My point has kind of been proven. It seems the only thing the English have to be proud of about their heritage is we killed a lot of people once. I'm sorry, but that's a good thing to be proud of why?

you can be proud that the british invented a cheap alcoholic drink that got many a youngster drunk
second thoughts no

To be faintly serious for a moment, yeah i suppose we did kill a lot of people. But in them days folk just wernt the enlightened sorts they are today. You was either a colonist or a colony, not much in between:) Everyone had colonies, christ even the belgians...
If we hadnt colonised India I wonder if the spanish would have done so,if they had i doubt India would be the place it is today, the Spanish were appalling to their colonies.
And as far as a lot the the stuff mentioned my me and staz goes,it wasnt what you'd call agressive as much as defensive. For example, much as the french like to dispute it now,Napoleon was a tyrant, and invaded most of Europe except Great Britain, and was only caught short when he attempted to invade Russia.Rather like another more recent European tyrant.I wonder whether in another 100 years people will be singing Hitlers praises as a master general like they do now with Napoleon.I certainly hope not...However on his return from exile Napoleon was met by Wellington, who had an army far smaller in number, and was defeated by a better tactician.A British tactician:)

The Prussians were at Waterloo as well m8 youre right. However the French had turned by then there is not much doubt of that. Also you have to remember the Prussian army was very poor by comparison, and wouldnt have been up to the French. All the good well trained troops (jeagers etc) were attached to the British army :)

my point being ,if you want it put simply waz,yes we was cunts to ppl,but so was everyone else, and we was less cuntish than a lot of people, when cuntishness was very much the order of the day :)

i dont want to argue with you about it,particularly as the stuff we are talking about is history not now.but human nature does rather tend to mean when ppl want things they go get em.its "society" that stops em i guess, whcih is a good thing.but to go about wringing your hands about stuff done 200 years ago is futile beyond all comparison.i personally just dont think its something to be ashamed of,its just what it is.would you have prefered us NOT to have fought Napoleon? Then who would have saved all the european countries he invaded.Or do you feel sorry for the German pilots in the battle of britain?yes we should have shot them down without hurting them....
tsk if only ken livingstone had been in power then it would have all been ok....

Also because england ruled 1/4 of the earths land surface, it means that english is the second most common language in the world

next to mandarin which is chinese, and its only first because the chinese make up 1/6 and a bit of the world population

it's a matter of oppinion isn't it? nothing one can do about it I fear. I'm not for war/whatever at all but I'm not about to go breaking my head over things I can't influence. Sure I feel bad about the terrible losses [on all sides] in example: wwII, but at the same time I'm bloody glad the allies won. And if there was dirty play [on any side] to get that victory, then so be it. better than being a nazi right now imo heh. soz, feeling a bit incoherant atm, better go take a paracetemol heh
