Care to point me at the details? i been let down badly so many times with this nasty rumour circulating a fair few times. Actually seeing my favourite all time band ever (TM) playing live will shit on the 3 frank black gigs i been to.

Please. Do it quickly too. Last thing i heard about kim deal was the fact the Steve Albini was boning her. Bastard.

From the official site.

If they sold out that quickly, chances are they'll add extra dates. Here's hoping anyway. I saw them live at the Crystal Palace Bowl many moons ago and they were awesome.

Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. FUCK!

Heres hoping for another album then. Theyve all written very polished solo stuff so if even if its selling out, its going to be worth listening to.

Im going to brixton on the 13th for Air, ill be wishing The Pixies are on stage instead :(

their album is guarenteed to be an absolute sellout hunk of shit. It will destroy their legacy completly. Frank Blacks being trying hard enough to do that for years, what with his less than avg solo output. This time he might well just do it, whilst getting richer off the proceeds.

I hate that they are reforming,

I have a little more faith than that. Frank Black has sold not a lot of records to be fair, hes still relying on his Pixies fanbase (me). The fact that the band are getting back together fills me with dread and joy. The same happened with Janes Addiction and they more or less adapted well but lost 50% of the sound that made them so great. The fact that the Pixies are a very simple band at heart, i cant see them changing their sound tho i do believe Black Francis :))) has lost a lot of his vocal range since becoming the fattest man in rock.

I was too young to see them live, got to like them when they split up and to see all the 4 of em onstage again makes me very excited as i said that it is indeed me favourite band of all time. Kim deals projects (the Breeders, the amps) have always been the ones i listened to the most but as i said to see them all together is going to be fucking cool. However much of 'wish these stayed in my memory' you want to feel, an awesome band like the Pixies reforming is only bad if they release shit music. And lets face it, i cant see them doing that.

I really hope you are wrong is what i am trying to say :)

I don't think Janes' Addictions' new album has lost 50% of the Janes' sound. OK, there's no modern day 'Jane Says' but I see it as more of a return to form after the disaster that was Porno For Pyros e.t.c.

As for the Pixies, and this is probably going to get me flamed, I thought they started to go downhill after Doolittle. Bossanova had its' moments but Trompe le Monde was, on the whole, a very disappointing album when it came out.

Frank Black has always been a pretty rotund chap. Even during the hey-day of the Pixies. I don't think this has much of a bearing on his voice. Just don't think his solo stuff really lends itself to screaming in the same way that, for example, something like 'Debaser' does :)

I've never minded bands reforming so long as they put out a decent record, or play a few good gigs, as a result. It's all to easy to become a bit 'precious' about bands.

If you compare the post-pixies output of Frank Black and Kim Deal, it's clear which one was the main creative force in the Pixies. There is no reason to think that a new Pixies record will be 'destroying their legacy' as Kim Deal has always retained her creative edge. Just hope their comeback is more Surfer Rosa/Doolittle than Trompe Le Monde....... Or something totally removed from all of them, who can tell ;)

Would be fantastic if Steve Albini produced it like Surfer Rosa :D

Trompe le Monde is a very good record tho possibly the weakest. Bossanova was absolutely gorgeous to listen to, Rock Music, The Happening and Down To The Well are all amzing songs and lets not forget the singles. My favourite has to be Surfer Rosa tho.

JA went a bit too rocky in Strays, what i mean is, the songs absolutely kick ass but there isnt really tracks like Been Caught Stealing.. There was a slight tinge of comedy in a lot of their songs and i miss that in strays.

Awww man, still grumbling over lack of tickets.

Oh and i have also been relistening to Porno for Pyros at work, they are better records than a lot of people give them credit for.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. I thought Trompe was a real let down with the exception of maybe Alec Eiffel. Bossanova had some real shite on it too. Velouria being an example that springs readily to mind. In fact I can't think of a single track from it that I still listen to in all honesty. In comparison, Doolittle and Surfer Rosa don't have a bad track between them. And certainly were not victim to Frank Blacks' alien infatuation........

Maybe. Although it's nice to hear a band putting out some real 'old school' (If you can call it that) rock. I think they still have a sense of humour. 'Just Because' has got its' tongue firmly lodged in cheek.

There's always the touts. Although I doubt they'll be giving the tickets away...... I would have money on there being an extra date or two if they've sold out so quickly though.

Will have to dig the album out and give them another listen. I remember being very disappointed when I first heard them though. Janes' were one of my favourite bands and I was _gutted_ when they split.

I can't believe no one's mentioned this comedy nugget yet. The singer from the godawful Stiltskin went on to sing for Genesis! He possibly still does too.

When i was growing up in the mid to late nineties, there seemed to be a spate of bands on the back of the Oasis/Blur generation that had some decent songs but seemed to vanish off the face of the planet?

So, whatever happened to:

Elastica (trigger happy TV theme)
Ultrasound (big fat guy for a singer, had a great song called 'Stay Young')
Lush
Reef
Kula Shaker (think maybe the lead bloke has a different band now)
The Gyres (scottish oasis-ish band, had a few singles, played T in the Park in 1997 I think)
Rialto
Northern Uproar
Boo Radleys
Shed 7

G

Well Lush split after the drummer committed suicide. One of the girls went on to form Sing-Sing who are still going. Mikki (the singer) quit music had a baby and is now an editor at a TV listings guide.
Reef were still playing last year to my knowledge.
Shed7 split last year or the year before after going nowhere fast.
Elastica headed into obscurity after their second album bombed after noone cared about them when Justine split up with Damon from Blur

Others I'm not sure of.

OH aye, Louise from Echobelly!

Sonia Madden was the singer. AFAIR the only other female member of the band was Debbie the bassist whom I last saw djing at small clubs in london, but think is back with a band now.

I still remember being saddened when I looked into what the guys from Audioweb were doing. All of them were in bands apart from the singer (who I still think was the best thing about them) who was working as a warehouse manager up north somewhere.

God... a few of those names brought back vague memories. Here are a few more I can just about remember:

Silver Sun
Menswear
The Flaming Stars
The Seahorses
Gene
The Supernaturals
Teenage Fanclub
Audioweb

Actually, I might just go and look up the Shine series...
Menswear split very shortly after releasing their debut album.
Gene are still going and played a gig in london recently.
Teenage Fanclub are playing T in the park after reforming (I think)
See post just before for audioweb)

Here are a few more for you to ponder over:

Thousand Yard Stare
Chapterhouse
Slowdive
The Catherine Wheel
Pond
Therapy?
Daisy Chainsaw
Credit To The Nation
The Breeders
808 State

Bloody hell, those first ones read like a 'who's who' of shoegazing :)

Did someone mention Menswear? Hahahahahahahahahaaaaaa ;)

Therapy? released a new album a couple of months ago
Daisy Chainsaw split when Katie went into a "home", reformed with a few changes as Queen Adreena once they had actually learned to play their instruments
The breeders got back together 2 years ago and recorded a new album and toured (and were superb)
Throwing muses also reformed and played and were shite. Pixies everyone knows about.

They are doing a number of festival dates. T in the park is confirmed.

I have it on good authority they are definately playing V and probably reading and glastonbury.

I failed to get tickets to brixton twice due to them selling out in minutes both times, but some kind soul has given me and my girlfriend tickets!

Ah of course, Louise was the singer for 'Sleeper' - sorry my bad, that's how totally unfamous they are ;).

Saw Daisy Chainsaw supporting Hole at the ULU years ago. Katie Jane could best be described as 'unhinged'. Fantastic gig. :) Queen Adreena any good? I'm almost put off by knowing that they've learnt how to play ;)

The gig also had Courtney 'Hag Witch from the Bowels of Hell' Love chucking what she claimed to be heroin out into the crowd. Declaring 'That's heroin by the way. Me and my boyfriend do it all the time'.

Filly sucker.....

Funnily enough, Therapy? were playing at the same gig. Just as shite then as they, probably, are now. Never have forgiven them for covering 'Isolation'.......
