If you like the sounds of Fable, you'll probably like Planescape: Torment then. It's an old RPG using a modified version of the infinity engine (Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale), but it's consistently rated the No. 1 CRPG of all time. Very good story, very involving, with a large amount of leeway in what you can do (none of this alignment rubbish).

Good luck finding it though, it's not even available on budget anymore! Else there's always the fallout games, but not the crap fallout tactics!

I tried downloading it (oo I'm naughty!) and after getting all the cd's of it, it turns out it's the german only version. I think it's Gods way of saying Piracy is bad and that I'm going to burn in the fiery pits of hell where Lynchesque small people will poke my testicles with sticks.

PS. Good choice on KotOR Gray, you shan't be disappointed.

Oh for fuck sake :(

I just got KotR this morning. Just opened up the packaging (Which was sealed) and there was a fucking Disc missing. Not ANY disc, disc one.

Now, i recall saying that Gamestation had a problem where a disc wasnt in the packing. This seems to be the case as well now (From Play)

NWN or Planescape. PM me if you want Planescape, otherwise best place to get a copy is on ebay but expect to pay at least £20 for a copy

I'd go with NWN. It takes a while to get into but once you get past the first 5 or 6 hours of it, it becomes much more enjoyable. I never managed to complete it as my save files disappeared but for how far I got, I really enjoyed it.

Grmf. NWN is rubbish. The singleplayer is hampered by a shitty story that's badly executed, awkward camera controls (and controls in general), crap AI and graphics that, "despite being 3D", are still tons inferior to the likes of Baldur's Gate and PS:T, "despite being 2D" - partially due to the fact that all the levels are just prefabricated blocks stuck together (so you get a horrible, neverending sense of déjà vu) and partially due to the fact that the graphics are simply, well, shit.
The multiplayer suffers from the same problems as the single-player and more. The vast majority of user-made campaigns are crap, or flawed, and the good ones still can't overcome the fundamental limitations of the engine. Also, if you try and combine a multiplayer game (or at least, computer games specifically, I guess) with a storyline then you're just asking for trouble, and if the campaign doesn't have a story, then it's most likely a pseudo-persistent "MMORPG" type campaign, which is just... awful.

So anyway yeah. Good luck with KotOR; it's definitely worth the hassle of getting them to cough up disc one or whatever. Vastly superior to stuff like NWN (even though it uses a similar base engine, as far as I know), except for the endings, which were kinda lame. Uhm.

What they want me to do, is send the game back (Recorded delivery), so thats +3 days for them to recieve it (NOW its the weekend, they probably wont get until midweek). Then they will send out a new copy, again recorded delivery so thats another +3 days.

*sigh* They couldnt answer the question which was "whats the chances of this new copy being duffed as well?". They said write small letter in the return post, im also gonna ask if they are allowed to break the seal to actually check if all 3 disc' are there

:/

.

Couldn't disagree with you more. These sound like typical comments from someone who hasnt actually played much of the original game or the mods, but from someone who bought the game and was disappointed because it didnt meet their expectations, which are far in excess of Game publishers capabilities. No its not perfect but it is by far the best overall fantasy based RPG released to date.

For your information, I played the single player campaign through once fully and numerous times partially with various characters. I have played multiplayer on many occassions with many different groups of people, always trying to justify the cost of the thing and trying to convince myself that "well, if I just play with a good group of people, it won't be so bad THIS time". Wrong.
Also, it is not at ALL the "best overall fantasy RPG" at the moment, or ever, by a long shot. Infact, I much prefer oldies like FF6 and Chrono Trigger to NWN, and, more recently, games like the afforementioned PS:T and Baldur's Gate series trump it in all possible stakes.

Admittedly I haven't tried the addons, but frankly the original thing was so rubbish that I really have no motivation to spend any more money on it.

Louster you are the first person I have come across who invests chunks of their life doing things they dislike even when they have a choice of not doing it. Seems a bit strange, but each to their own I suppose

Basically, my dislike has grown along with my experience of the game. Once I'd forced myself to complete the single player campaign, out of a sense of obligation (and free time, and no other games, etc.), and played multiplayer numerous times, out of a sense of, like I said, attempting to justify the purchase, I realised what a truly lousy waste of time it was. I'd even got quite a way into learning how to use the editor, the experience of which revealed the absurd limitations of the engine with even more clarity.

I will concede that it's not the worst fantasy RPG I've played in recent times, however. That accolade would have to go to the Beyond Divinity demo, which was so absolutely dire it was comical. I can only assume that the game must have been improved for release, as it couldn't physically have gotten any worse - the voice acting in particular was hilariously bad.

Heh yeah. That's Louster for you. I do find that he doesn't really talk about stuff he doesn't have opinions on though, so if he say's he doesn't like something, then you can probably guess he's played it for a while rather than a flying visit.

TBH I found the SP campaign in NWN pretty cruddy tbh.

I'm an old-skool RPG-er (Fighting Fantasy!), and much prefer SP games of the BG PS:T ilk.

BG3 is going to be in 3D according to Atari, so I just hope it doesn't prove to be a huge disappointment like NWN.

MP NWN isn't bad, but like Louster I don't honestly like the engine all that much.

k brilliant. Just checked play.com's site, and the fuckin games out of stock now.

Why does every fuck want this game as soon as i lay my eyes onto it? :/ Either that or its been taken off the shelf because of the disc shortage. Gonna call Gamestation at work tomorrow, if they have it in stock then i'll buy it then ask for a refund on the game.

*bah*

Unless you plan on selling it when you're bored of it, just download the first disc from BT.

While you're doing that, you could be ordering a proper replacement. That way, you still get to play, but you don't have to fuck around for ages.

Of course, legally you could download it since you've paid for it. Shouldn't be a problem finding disc one of KotOR somewhere to tide you over till you get it replaced..

Just checked, £14.99.

Not bad, worth the hassle for an extra £5 though?

It is a brilliant game, and definitely worth the hassle of getting it in some way.

Don't play drunk, with a badger on your lap. :p
As long as you fire in bursts, your gun will shoot 'straight'. Shots will only scatter if you hog the fire button until your magazine is empty. Hehe

But he's right - you should have at least 756 MB of RAM.
I got my copy last year at release but you can dl the full version for $9.99 - that includes 30 days of game time.
