Hold on a sec - much though I dislike the burka, people wearing isn't necessarily a sign of non-integration. Integrating with a society doesn't mean you have to give up your identity. All you have to do is imply ANY criticism of his religion, for example the thing about the Dutch cartoons, and his only response is to (literally) clench his fists go red in the face and refuse to speak any more. This is NOT reasoned debate. However this is a reasonably educated man in his mid-thirties.

What this is, is Third World Religion. It has power over people that no logic, or arguments, or limp wristed capitulation will defeat. The only ways to deal with it is either to roll over completely and shoot the Archbishop of Canterbury (not altogether a bad thing!) or to change our attitudes to Islam and to the massive amount of immegrants to our country.

Or in 50 years or so we wont even have a country, not as we could recognise it today.

There is something a lot of you people are missing here. I agree with throd on many points but (unless its earlier on in the thread) you all need to turn your attention to people on your doorstep rather than people coming into the country.

Our forefathers fought for us, and that makes me proud, its real it isn't like saying Jebus died for our sins.....that isn't real. If people have come into this country from lets say Bangledesh, they haven't really (for the most part) got a hell of a lot else other than their religion (I still insist religion is born out of poverty and not some shining light). Yes they need to come here and adapt, I couldn't agree with that more, but they may be coming here to make a new start, to actually put into the country (take away the foreigners and try to get treated in hospital....you wouldn't), then what do they see everywhere they look, fuck me if I went to a country and I saw similar to what happens here I would be god damn defensive as well.

Blame the government for our people first then worry about the others after, worry about our spoilt uncivilised (sp) race before anything else, because that is the danger not the others.

I'm not interested in the majority of this thread as a lot of it is hot air, however there are lots of truths scattered about.

Mine is that despite what everyone thinks, this country is being hugely influenced by external sources. I remember when I was a kid that the only times I heard a foreign language were when I was on holiday in Europe or in French class at school. Nowadays you walk down the street and can pass everyone talking without one of the conversations being in English.

The problem as I see it is that nobody wants to be "integrated" they all want to be distinct. That needs work on both sides.

Raghead is a racist term for Arabs, not Muslims. People using it to offend Muslims are especially ignorant because they aren't even using the correct offensive term. Or they don't know the difference. And just because you aren't being racist, since you are trying to only be offensive to all Muslims, doesn't make it ok. Plus, in Islam, the Ummah refers to the entire community of believers, so they regard themselves as a race, even if you don't.

With heaps and large amounts of respect Will, I don't agree with you . As per another thread, someone was referred to as a "stupid jock" without any intervention from moderators; it's socially acceptable in society to poke fun at the Scots, but I resent and find it equally offensive and as racist as "fucking ragheads". However, noone bats an eyelid at "jock" terms and that I should "lighten up".

I'm sure if someone threw a "stupid paki" into conversation in society, or indeed on these forums; a whole torrent of abuse and disapproval would be unleashed.
