Right. WRC. Fun to watch? When McRae stufs it down a hill yes. Require car control? Yes, but nowhere near as much as F1. 300bhp 4WD machines will ALWAYS be easier to control than an 850bhp rear wheel drive bullet which weighs about the same as a postage stamp.

Not true, an F1 car is hardly a car these days, its a computer with wheels, as Eddie Irvine pointed out all you do is turn the wheel and press the pedals, the computer makes sure you don't do anything wrong.
Now rally driving, and I can say I have experienced rally driving first hand. Okay you have to go as quickly as you can around a course that is almost different every time, hence the navigator, the navigator blurts out the angle of the corner and where they are and also which way to turn at the split, so the driver must always listen to the navigator so as not to drive off a cliff, which has happened. the course can consist of 90 degree angled corners, hair pins, chicanes all on a track that can just about hold one small car, to the left and right are trees rocks, sheer drops you name it, and to top it all off the track almost never has any grippable surface whatsoever. F1 is driving a really fast car in a circle, rallying is driving a fast car over a near ice like surface around blind corners.

with respect ignus, I dont think you can possibly say that F1 is like driving a fast car in a circle. The amount of skill rquired to pilot an 850bhp wedge round a circuit is huge.

Computer assisted they may be, but its still the driver who presses the accelerator and break, abs not withstanding.

ignus, you clearly have no idea what you're on about. Rally cars are full of technology aswell. Teaction Control, ABS, similar telemetry to F1 and really piss-take ones like Active Yaw Control. And also Pace Notes, so they know exactly what's at the end of that blind bend.

And in this case:

"Ignus is wrong"

Tell that load of wank to Ayrton Senna.

Oops, wait can't can you?

:/

Either way, the weekends GP result was a farce - used to like F1, oddly enough don't much anymore.

I wasn't aware you were a member of Ferrari's pit crew?

Learn something new every day don't ya ;)

But seriously - enough of the TV pit crews were standing about the Ferrari wall for the last few laps, watching Todt with his finger on his "talk to michael" button. On the last lap he had a quick "talk to reubens" and then back to the "talk to michael"......

Enquiring minds..................

Oh and I suppose you do, right? Stop basing your driving knowledge on computer games.
Driving with no grip and a damaged car is harder than driving at high speed.
Colin McRae has more driving skill in the finger he wanted to amputate than Michael Schumacher has in his entire German body.

And also, more people have died in rallying than in F1. And some have come extremly close, look for the tumble that Louise Atkin Walker took down the side of an almost sheer drop about the height of an office building into a stream below. How she survived is a miracle. Senna was killed allegedly by faulty equipment and a dodgy track anyway.

Ignus, Schumacher is easily as skilled as McRae....

watched a programme on tv about how senna died, it was because the botom of his car touched the track at a really fast corner, due to too much downforce. This caused the flow of air under his car to be stopped, as a result the car suddenly lost huge amounts fo downforce and as such grip, so the car wasnt able to turn the corner, and went flying off the track into the wall. :(

Da ken if this has been said....

If Shumacher was that against the decision, he should have out manouverd Rubins and stayed in 2nd place.............. and not swung through to 1st

well that is the last F1 race for me after 13 years of dedication.

not all lost as on BBC2 the superbikes are on and that rocks IMO.

ooo yeah and I have just bought a Razer Boomslang 2000 from Komplett fot those of you that have met me in UT.

*goes to fetch weekly Guardian that has an intresting perspective of this*

Rubens Barrichello had been ordered to drop back from teh lead and hand his team mate victory. Then schumacher made it worse. With the jeers and whistles in his ears, he tried to make it up to barrichello by pushing him on to the top step of the podium and getting him to accept the winner's trophy. As if that nauesatingly hypocritical gesture were not enough, teh disingenous victory speech with which he atampted to absolve himself from any blame for the manipulated conlcusion to the race mereley emphasised the extent of his responsibility. "it was a team decision" he said. "At the end of teh day it comes from ferrari itself". But anybody with the slightest intrest in F1 knows that no decision is taken in the Scuderia Ferrari team without Schumaers say so. In that sense, he is the most powerful figure in the team since the heyday of old Enzo Ferrari himself. Even if he played no active part in the actual decision to tell Barrichello to give up the victory, Schumachers standing in teh team is such that it would have been unneceserrary.

sorry if I rambled on there. But found it awfully intresting with some truth contained. Excuse spelling mistakes. my touch typing is a bit crap

Not true - I'd say they were about equal - McRae had a go at F1 with Stewart as it was being mooted around Ford that McRae could be the first driver to cross from Rally to F1. He put in some good laps.

Schumacher, on the other hand, has dabbled in the odd rally - and put in some good showings aswell. So I'd say they were about equal.

And also, more people have died in rallying than in F1.

What absolute shite. Look at the PERCENTAGES. When you've got 22 guys and it used to be you'd lose 3 or 4 of them a year the percentage of people who died in F1 as opposed to Rally is MASSIVELY more. F1's the more dangerous sport - period.

Anyway - I like both, will continue to like both - and this sort of controversy just keeps my interest even more :)

Untrue that F1 requires less skill than Rally, it is just a different type of skill. It's like saying Flying a fighter plane requires less skill than playing quake3 cause you die hundreds of times a week if you are a hardcore Q3 player.

(ok nothing like the above statement but you know what i mean)

Rally is still better than F1 though :). mebbe the FIA should introduce some offroad tracks :).

you do realise that flying a light aircraft. let alone a fighter jet is way more hard than QIII?

where do you get your information from, the star? have any of you ever even watched a WRC at all. Of all the people I've ever had this conversation with I've never once heard anybody say that rallying was easier than F1. I'm not even gonna continue the arguement, its just utterly stupid.

Not made a post on here for ages, but being an avid F1 fan, i thought i should.

For a start : racism : Ignus : perhaps if you were a little less anti-German, you would get a better reply to your posts. Michael Schumacher is human, german, fitness in comparison to your average professional athlete, reflexes quicker than most Jedi (possibly not true) etc. If you want to shun his obvious level of skill, I suggest you do it elsewhere.

For a second : The Incident : Team orders. Barrichello had just been signed up for a new contract for a team with which he suits, with which he apparently enjoys driving for, and the team he stands the best chance of winning in, as HE DID the last race. As he said himself on the postrace interview, he was at least keeping his team happy.

Michael was as sportsmanlike as anyone could have possibly been in that situation. He was no more arrogant than anyone else, he did all he could to give Rubens the credit. I for one enjoy watching someone with the "arrogance" level of Schumacher do as he did, perhaps it may even prove a lot of people wrong about him.

I have a great deal of respect for all the drivers and teams involved within Formula 1, all the hard work they put in etc. I am a Ferarri fan yes, and Rubens is my favourite driver, purely for his smoothness and consistancy on track.

Things happen, as people have said it is not the first time, and I would agree with the FIA deducting all or some of the points schumacher "won" in the race.

Everybody has their own tastes, Personally I love watching all forms of motorsports, so bleeting about "this is better than that because...." is useless.. People will always watch the sports they enjoy to watch, not because someone thinks Mcrae can take a corner at 190mph.

Rant over etc :)
It was a good race though, I enjoyed it, as many others have also done.

good post kryten. Heres my list of things that would make F1 more exciting
1) Slick tyres, faster racing
2) No traction control
3) No pit lane speed limiter in car ( requires more skill)
4) Reversing the grid - Eg. in a race 1) schumacher 2) Hill 3) herbert 4) button 5)frentzen 6)montoya

So.. for the next race they would start like this:

1) montoya
2) Frentzen
3) Button
4) Herbert
5) Hill
6) Schuey

You can just imagine the minardis starting at the front, and schumacher and co. near the back making some amazing overtaking stunts.

5) Must make a minimum of 2 pit stops
6) changing the points system :

to: 10, 8, 6, 4 ,2, 1

You are a loser.

You have not read nor understood what I or anyone has said. Go away and play with yourself.

I would explain but I don't think I should waste the effort on you as you obviously didn't waste the effort on properly understanding what I or anyone has said and you haven't bothered doing any real research.

So shit am I infact, that i'm now being flamed by someone who just says "You are a loser" without any provocation whatsoever. I did plenty of research as far as reading the entire thread was concerned and I've seen the full race twice.

If you don't like my opinion just fuck off and ignore it.
If you want to add something, or argue something : Do it properly and like a man rather than simply refering to me as someone that does not succeed.

Cheers.
