i wanna do my own photos of the swords. thing is the PFK is like 5foot long or so and i dont have a wide angle lens or anything to do it :(.

its a lot more ownage than that photo shows.

the .22 Magnum is freaking awesome aswell. rips cans in half from about 50 meters away. i only bought it for £20. took it down the arms dealer in town who said its worth over £200 in a private sale as they stopped making them in the 80s.

Some stuff from my collection...
There´s a 2h sword missing in those pics, it´s on my office wall. (Helps against pesky marketing muppets and producers with deadlines). The swords are nothing special except for the Bastard sword (the one at the bottom). That´s a "real" sword, it´s good steal and as sharp as medieval swords used to be (i.e. you can´t shave with them, but they certainly can hurt).
The chain is made by myself. Took me a couple month to drill the wire and put it together. That was back in the days when I was young and had some spare time. Shirt is approximately 12000 rings and 7 kg, coif is 14000 rings (small rings) and 1,5 kg. :)
The rest of my armour is dusting away somewhere in the attic. :(

im only an amateur on swords, but i didnt think straight up steal would be good for practicial use?

isnt it likely to snap and fly in your face, where carbon steel doesnt?

im gonna go shoot some cans up in a bit, so i will show some photos of what the beast can do.

Well.... I don´t know the english terminology for the different kinds of steel, but when you s wing those swords, you´ll notice the difference. :)
This bastard sword just does what it´s supposed to do, whereas the other swords I got are just plain barrels of metal.

the way steel behaves when it hits stuff depends on how it's forged.
Think it was like this, if it cools down fast it remains "flexible" to some degree.
If it cools down slow it becomes especially hard.
So for a sword you'd cool the body down fast, while leaving the edge with less cooling. Sounds odd ? Ok, apply a thick mudcoating on the body, while only a thin one on the edge.
Just seen a report once (or twice) so could be the other way around too ;)

i know it is to do with heat treating. the sharp and the spine are heated differently for superior strength. differential heat treatment if you will.

just used my magnum and shot a can of beer. wish i recorded it now. pellet went out t'other side. the can dented its self cos the pressure changed so fast, it flew in the air spun round and sprayed beer all over. only have blunt pellets atm though. had pointed ones before that go through the can and rip the whole of the back of it off.the pointed ones are also able to pierce through metal flight cases.

dented%20worthy.jpg

that is the second exit wound where i shot it again just to empty the beer out. the dent can be seen on the left. couldnt fit the origional exit wounds in. basically its just torn the sides of can like the metal has been pealed back.

edit:
took another photo, its easier to see for your self.

thor dude that collecion is mighty!!! :worthy:

btw on the subject of steels you can heat treat to get it to do diferent stuff i.e heat for ductility or strenght if you temper something your going to get a mighty strong product but you can also change the tensile strength by lesser heat treatments make them more flexible and less likely to shatter (not sure about the izod but prolly), you can case harden stuff with like carbon and nitrogen etc but i dont think that would work with swords cos you'd chip the hell out of it but i know with a lot of the alloy swords the sword makers just temper it which is good.

yay finally my knowledge finds a use!

the swords i have are made from carbon steel.
and the wavy line is the temper line on the sword.

it is exactly the other way around.

There are several variables in hardness. If it's pure iron it'll feel wobbly no matter what you do to it so you'll need an alloy with some carbon and some other additives.

Then lowering it's temperature fast after forging (water or snow) it makes the metal very hard but more brittle. Lowering the temperature more slowly (air) makes the metal less prone to break but it'll be soft so a bit more wobbly.

Also, take a paperclip and bend one leg over and over again till it snaps. You then just created one of the harder metal finishes at the breaking point. Cold deformation makes metal really hard (in 1 direction)

I'm less martial =) I'm collecting tin cans from all over the world so I have stuff from Brazil to the US, from Englang to Turkey, from Africa etc. =)

Well they also serve as decoration for the backside of my shelves and glass cabinets =)

At the beginning it was frustrating to see like 10 cans standing there, but now they're a few hundred =)

Oh and I also collect DAoC videos, have 43.3 gigs atm =)

EDIT: saying I'm less martial in my collection doesn't mean I don't find your weapons collections impressive =) Actually some really cool parts there =)

aye the cooling times/methods are very specific as to what finish you actually want on the item also certain heat treatments need to be quenched very fast to lock the molecules in place cos the heat treatment spaces them out all evenly (pretty sure this is precipitation) but they have a natural tendancy to migrate back to where they started if left to slow cool so if you quench in water your going to lock the molecules fast but will make the item more brittle than if left to air cool.
