What class do you play and what are your thoughts about it?

Well then guys,

at work and a little bit bored - decided to take a peak at the SWTOR class forums on their official community site, seem to be a hell of a lot of whine regarding the Sentinel class and how underpowered they are etc etc,

I actually play a Sentinel - level 50 Valor Rank 52 or so and all my gear is that purple con champion/centurion/rakata/tionese/columi stuff - mixture of each, and I am very competitive in PVP - and PVE is well the same as any other game, you just hit stuff til it dies

Would love to know what others who play marauder / sentinel think of their class (if they're from daoc at least as it does appear to be the wowkids whining )

Obviously I've left this open to all classes as it'd be interesting to see what people think of the classes in the game!

Oh and whats your most hated class to have a 1v1 vs in pvp? mine has to be Mercenary atm - god they can take some beating down to actually kill!

I saw from the DAoC boards you're not really that impressed with SWTOR? I actually think its got a bucket load of potential the bioware seem to be willing to throw in the time/money and listen to the feedback so I'm sticking with it

My highest character is a level 50 gunslinger. Fine in PvE, albeit I've not done any of the hard flashpoints yet. I tend to lose interest at maximum level, running the same content over and over again is not fun for me, would rather level alts and explore their storylines.

In PvP the cover mechanic is a bit of a pain in the butt, but I can still post big damage numbers and kill people. Not so sure I'll do as well when they make the 50 only battlegrounds though, not unless I spend the time gearing up.

Hutt Ball is incredibly horrible as a gunslinger, almost all of our good stuff requires us to be in cover and we have no combat speed buff either.

My highest alt is a guardian, defence spec. Not strong in PvP either but makes a nuisance of himself and helps out the healers with guard, push back, slow etc.

Sith Assassin here. Feels terribly weak in pve so it's best to go the tank line. Once you get Talos at 38 who can dps and heal it's far less annoying. seems ok in pvp. Think it's a late bloomer

Sorc at 50, when I was madness spec (aka balance sage) it felt pretty strong, the whines on the official forums are all complaining about sorc lightning being OP, but tbh their lightning is fairly weak, their strength comes from their amazing kiting abilities. I'm full corruption spec now though (healing), always preferred playing healers.

Also levelled a Marauder, currently 44, they're far from weak. While they feel quite soft at lower levels, I'm soloing quite well in PvE. Their cooldowns make them quite tough, and tbh, the people that are saying they suck, are generally the type of people who are not very good at games. They seem to play DPS classes thinking you can spam 1-2 abilities and do well. In SW I've found that even the pure DPS classes have been given some actual dimension, similar to support classes, in that they actually require you to pay attention and understand your class to play. Marauder/Senti, in the hands of a good player are amazing.

Play a 50 Immortal Juggernaut.

People whine about them as tanks but I have never had nay trouble tanking, just takes a bit of thought and lots of running around.

As for PvP, its fun when there is objectives because if a jugg doesn't want you to cap a point you and 3 of your friends aren't going to cap it for a good 30 seconds or more. Bit frustrating that you can't really kill anything though. They are awesome huttball runner too. Pretty much unstoppable and between force jump and intercede can get out of most situations.

Well with that gear, and most seems to still be in pre champ gear, some odd bits and pieces, you have the expertise to help keep you alive and do added dmg, my Jugger in full champ gear is a hard nut to crack cept for thoose 60+ valor gears people then i tend to go splat rather quickly, way to quick for a tank.

I was lucky with my champ gear, dinged 50 headed to Ilum did the daily and weekly, joined warzones got quick daily and weekly in a few hours. Rest of the quests same day at 13:00 CET got another set of dailes and weeklies done. And had nearly full champ gear, only missing head piece but got some bought 3rd pair of pants and removed the stuff in them and put them on the head piece. And when i got the gear i went from about 60k dmg 20kish protection to around 140k dmg and 60k protection, then i ran into a team of two premades in 60+ valor gear and it was like being sent back to kindergarden. Spanked so hard. And read somewhere on the official forums that even bioware has admitted they think warriors and knight a bit to squishy.

And dont get me started on tanking in FPS, what where they thinking, i charge i get CC´d by the mobs, i break cc once every minute, pop threatening scream, just to get cc´d again... but hopefully will get a bit better with the guard fix. And also heard armor and defense is not working as it should. Was from a guildy thou. Only lost 1 team member in fps thou was due to the fact that i charged to soon and our merc was overheated, i died out sorc died.
Got a bugged droid in False Emperor he spawned as hardmode, but we got him down after a few tries.. At lvl47 i soloed the foundry, my healer died on droid boss since i didnt pull him away from teh smashing down thing, took awhile to beat him down after that. About 8 min

But some classes burst dmg is just way over the top, got hit by 2 scoundrels at the same time, 2 shotted buy thoose two, and i had my 25% dmg reduction shield up, aswell as nearly 400 expertiese and 15% bonus pot ontop of that, 17k hits just gone...

My lvl20 merc just pwns in warzones even against lvl50s sure if they charge me im dead but using los and ae i top the dmg charts while blowing away the ball carriers, same goes for my lvl12 sniper, hit a jugger in same ammount of champ armor like my jugger for 5.6k with my laze and sniper shot. Imagine what that would have been in full champ gear.

Gearing up is boring no matter what game it is. It's the same mind numbing grind just done different.

Played all(both warriors even), liked all, all different(to an extent of being an MMO).

Some kind of a pur pet class would be nice, as well as a heavy weapon expert for imps, otherwise you can find your niche right in there.

Can't pick a favorite, i like playing all for different reasons(such as operative for sneaky and healy, warrior tanking and pure asskicking as marauder and ofcourse sorcerer for "UNLIMITED POWAH!!!").

Bounty hunter, well, i was disappointed at the implementation as it didn't quite fit my expectations(personal problem), but it also was my first char and as such, throwaway learning char. Will have to rerollone later and see how i like it.

I have played all the republic classes but my favourite is the scoundrel.

The gunslinger advanced class is currently a bit broken in pvp. Its too reliant on a buggy cover mechanic thats subject to serious activation delay and too many classes can knock them out of it which leaves them unable to use most abilities.

So that really just leaves the melee/heal/stealth scoundrel.

Healing in pvp is currently awful for all healers so ill move on...

The stealth abilities are as godly as ever.

The class has one exploit where using vanish allows them to apply their big up front damage move twice in quick sucession which is cheesy but easily fixed with a cooldown on the opener.

Overall its a fun class in pve/pvp and not as broken as many others.

My biggest gripe tanking is you charge, you get cc´d by alot of different mobs, you break it just to be cc´d again, the using threatening scream, just too loose aggro again since rest of the group got a headstart on the dps. And since jugger tanks dps is not too good its hard to regain it with the single target taunt, the scream got 45 sec cooldown, the taunt 15 sec cooldown.

lol ! ive gone the complete opposite, My sorc is good for heals and can solo most quests if I kept the companion amour high. But dps in pvp was very lacking for me but i only got to lvl40, I re-rolled and got a sith assasin to lvl34 so far having much more fun, it may be due to the fact i had a ns,sb,inf,2 scouts on daoc and a ranger/hunter on rift

Tried a few classes up to mid twenties. Arsenal Spec Mercenary being favourite so far in PvP. Playing Republic on Bloodworthy and having fun still. Highest char is a Gunslinger (close to 40) and so far finding it OK. Like others I'm not sure about the cover mechanics. Also levelling a Jedi tank and Scoundrel.

A note on healing;

Operative is a slower healer, with logne rcasts and a heal over time(no energy) worth two shits in a sewege plant.
Sorcerer is your spam button until your fingernail falls off healer.

I prefer Sorcerers healing, much mroe reactive(especially with the UI what it is), so i'm probably going dps operative from now on(pvp fun atleast).

That's my opinion on them, might help someone choose. Haven't tried BH healing.

L47 on corruption sorc at the mo. My only gripe reallly is Khem Val, not sure if its the same with others - but the pathing / Ai is AWFUL. Ask khem to attack another mob other than the one he's on, after a few seconds he turns round and eventually WALKS to the other mob, buggy, yukky needs fixing. Khem is one slow mofo all round. Any world 1v1 with full heal spec and i'm completely toast, gone, dead, dont even worth bothering. Never mind trying to kill the enemy, its Impossible even to sustain heals on yourself for more than a minute. Similar to Daoc, if your caught 1v1 with heal spec , run away.

haha my lvl39 sorc would hit for shit and get 1-2k crits rarely, I rolled a sith assasin at lvl11 I was getting 2k and 3k crits I'll try an operative to once my assasin is done.
