Ok, I haven't started a new topic for eh? - well at least a day or so. The title of this one is pretty important I reckon. It affects all and really is vitally important to anyone with ambition. 'What are your goals in life?' is thought provoking, self exploratory, psycho analytical - definitely a relevant question to ask. What are mine? Well, this takes a bit of thought for sure. I have some lofty goals still and probably always will. Here are a few:

1. Become the top Welsh over 55-60yr athlete for road running for distances upto 10 miles. Huge task this and will require looking into the future and planning schedules for a few years in advance.
2. Become an accomplished blues acoustic finger picking guitar player. Another monster task but I have moved along this road a fair bit in just a few short years.
3. Curb my selfishness and learn to think more of others. Very hard for me to do this. Does thinking of others make you weak?
4. Keep strong and mentally positive. A goal for sure but a pretty unpredictable one. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Thought there would be a few more but the above is enough to kick off with. Your turn now :p.

I think the simpliest goal in life is to be happy, enjoy each day and take the challenges that everyday life throws at us head on.

Humans are naturally lazy we live for routine, to live outside of that routine is a goal I wish and hope I will one day be able to achieve, (money/personal circumstances being the biggest factor).

I don't see why it would - in fact I think it takes strength of character to be mindful of others.

As for the main question - meh, beyond being able to afford a place of my own, I don't have any (realistic) life goals. Jessica Alba is taken.

I have a vague thought of having my own bike shop one day, preferably in Australia or New Zealand. Other than that, I am content with my life atm.

All in fairness. Give but not so that it harms you.

Anywya, my goals are well, not really goals. I've got ambitions, like "i'd like to be rich", or "i'd like to get a perfect lass", but those aren't goals. Doesn't mean that i'm not ambisious about life and stuff, just that i don't have any firm "must have" goals because i don't feel they're needed.

Only goal, real goal, i can think of is to prove relative immortality :D

Is that where one of your relatives lives forever. Whilst you, however, die a horribly embarrassing public toilet related death involving a hamster and mop?:D

Life goals:
  • Grow old enough to see my grand kids but young enough to still play footy with em in the park.
  • Have a decent enough pension so I don't have to worry about money.
  • Have an early mid life crisis, dump the mrs, buy a sports car and marry a 19 yr old nymphomaniac who can cook.

I have ambition but not the type of ambition which involves being at the top of my career earning shitloads of cash.... my ambition is more to do with fighting internal demons and the everlong search for contentment in many aspects of my world

Be their for my kids and get joy from watching them grow and enjoy life.

I know it sounds sappy but thats where I'm at now. Its amazing to watch them discover and enjoy things like tree climbing and subjects at school that push their buttons. (Daughter wants to be an archaeologist atm as she is just learning about Egypt).

Just enjoy every day as it comes and dont get sucked into the corporate rat race that capitalist society is. You only have to turn the news on to see where that leads.

Hmm this isn't easy, but i'd say:

- move on in my career, probably contract, pay a significant chunk of the mortgage off
- have children and get a beagle puppy
- have enough money to give up working full time to focus on photography (retire early I suppose)

I've got a lot of unrealistic goals too:

- get into stock car racing, or into some sort of car racing
- have a flat in the city and a reasonable sized getaway house up in the highlands
- own an Aston Martin :)

Something happened to me not long ago which over time has highlighted how badly my life has been derailed. I have so many depressing things churning through my head right now it's unreal, so my goal in life at the moment is to find out some way to block it all out and figure out what the fuck I'm doing :(

Unfortunately that was just a temporary relief from the situation, I wanted more from her but she's handed me my key for the friendzone so yet another worry to add to the list, but that's a different story.

Anyway I didn't pay for her she paid for herself, and it was only about £560 for flight and hotel.

Must say there seems a very interesting story behind all this. Pretty interesting too reading snippets from people's lives mentioned above. Maybe somone should start a topic about the lives we lead. A thought.

My biggest ambition, and yes, you may think its sappy......get married, have kids and have a happy and lasting marriage with a man I love and who loves me for who and what I am. Both my parents have divorced twice....and it has made me so determined to prove that marriage is not an aged custom that doesn't work anymore.

Hmm maybe. I like to keep most of my personal life seperate to FH.

For me, FH is a place to interact with people on a different level. It's weird, even though I've met none of you, I probably know you better (based on political and personal views expressed) than I do people/friends face to face where people might hide their thoughts or be pretentious.

But dave did you swaffle the Empire State Building...

As for lives I find myself agreeing with BigG again (this is starting to scare me.... more than a little).. FH is not a place for that kind of discussion, for me FH is actually a place I can be myself without any of the historic baggage I may have and more importantly want to forget..

ABSOLUTELY!
My folks broke up when I was a kid and it put me off marriage for a LONG time. It took the love of a good woman, a baby and a few years living together for me to change my opinion. Here I am, having my 5th anniversary this year, 3 kids, a house, a career and I'm genuinely content.

My main goals at the moment...

  • Visit the fjords of Norway in winter to see the aurora.
  • Be in the right place for a total solar eclipse.
  • Trace my ancestry tree, document it and provide each of my children with a copy of their family history.
  • Get recertified for MS and Cisco, and upgrade my HND to a degree.
  • Move to the isles of Scotland to run self-catering lodges in my retirement.

Sadly no, far too cold.

For me even in FH I feel very concious about what I say just like I am in real life. I'm always painfully aware that people aren't interested in what I have to say, hence the lack of a New York debrief. I guess I'm just one of those people who spends to much time worrying about what other think of them, even online.

Take to music like wot I did. Wrote some great tunes after my last relationship hit the rocks. Just think of it as a learning process.

Whilst you lot are getting all moody and depressed I have just recorded a new tune. One I have made up after listening to the radio when this guy played some lead guitar blues riff. Only now are my hands and fingers getting strong enough to play it. Shows I am still on target for one of my goals.

Thumper Tune

I dont think very highly of long term goals since they have a tendancy to be quite pragmatic, so I'll go with short term goals instead.

Right now, my goals are:

Get used to unilife as I travel abroad to Scotland to go to Uni. of Glasgow.
Do some work for Zeitgeist Movement.
Loose another 8kg and keep training to maintain positive attitude.

Goals help me focus, but they have to constantly evolve, you never know what's around the corner. I had a goal to hit before I was 30 which was to own my Lotus, just made it 8 months before my 30th, then I set a few to do before I was 40. I've ended up knocking a few off pretty quickly so maybe I should come up with some more. Some are easy, but need timing, others more difficult and required some luck along the way too, anyway here's a list. I'm 33 now btw.

1. Find someone, settle down. - accomplished, I couldn't be happier.
2. Get my own place - accomplished, was largely reliant on No.1.
3. Have at least one child - accomplished, obviously fairly reliant on No.1 too...
4. Travel back to the same place in spain where we used to holiday when I was a child. - should be fairly easy, but need to find some time.
5. Compete in a 24hr motor race. - It's only going to be the 2CV's at Snetterton, but I'm hoping to enter in 2011.

Yeah I do really need to sit down and work out some more. Having a 14 month old though means most of your sitting is spent with your eyes shut getting your breath back!

Feel a bit in the same boat, but the worst thing you can do is try to block it out, it will only keep coming back stronger and stronger. Face it, then you will figure it out, maybe not straight away, but in time

I'm still not there yet, and i keep falling off, but i'm trying so very hard

My goal is to try and be happy, i dont want anymore than that, if i were truly happy then i'm sure everything else would just fall in to place.....but then who of us are truly happy.....??

Not to be rude pcg, but I find it amazing that someone of your sporting ability (by which I mean I'm assuming you're fairly good at sports looking at the amount of things you want to do that involve running!) doesn't yet know how to swim! Can you not swim at all? or do you mean learn how to swim competitvely?

Some of the list looks doable but the everest and channel ones seem a tad over ambitious :). Channel is 25 miles innit? Hard enough task learning to swim I would have thought?

Having been a lifeguard for some years I've seen plenty of good swimmers and long distance ones had very long swimming histories. Not to put you off but their bodies were highly flexible around the shoulders etc from learning to swim at a young age. Still who knows what someone can achieve if they put their minds to it? Will mention one guy who was the swimming coach for the area and used to swim lakes - 10 miles or more. He had one of the most relaxing strokes I have ever seen. A few front crawl strokes and he was across the 25 metre pool. Was quite incredible to see. Don't think he ever attempted the channel though ;).
