The websites at BW are soon to close and I would like to get myself a new site.

I don't want anything posh, I have no idea what myssql or perl, or whatever they are called, are and to be honest I don't feel the need to find out. What I do want is a site with no banners, that'll allow pictures to be linked to from elsewhere, with a reasonable, though not big bandwidth allowance.

20MB of space would almost certainly be enough, though I suppose 50MB would be nice, and I would like it to host a domain name.

E-mail would be entirely opptional as I have more than enough addresses already.

I got all this from BW, except domain hosting, for a very reasonable charge (I only ever payed one £12 sub), and don't expect to get it as cheap again, but does anyone know of a good place that'll offer this for a few quid a month?

Thanks

My mate can give you hosting space for a very reasonable price. You would have to register a domain name (a .co.uk would cost 6 quid).

Actually RB, it's bozz who can do it for you. PM me and I'll put you in touch. I recently got one from him for free but that's coz he's meh buddy.

Thanks for that Leggy, obviously as I've never shagged him I wouldn't expect anything for free, but it'd be great to go with someone I know.

PMs in yer box

Couple of other questions.

rubberbullets.co.uk has been registered, but ran out last November and hasn't been renewed. Will it simply come back on the market? I'd like it, but not enough to buy it off anyone.

rubberbullets.org.uk is available, but is there any restrictions on who can have a .org domain? I'm not an org after all.

I registered allo.us a while back. I just need to figure out something to do with it now... I originally planned for a spunky vhost for irc etc, but I never got round to it.

RB reregister rubberbullets.co.uk with these guys:

and it'll be back up within 24 hours

I've pm'd you also.

Sadly the Rubber Bullets that has registered that isn't me, (common name I guess) so I can't reregister.

What I'd like to know is when the name becomes available again if the other guy doesn't renew.

Hah, don't go there.

I made the mistake of registering my first domain with them, due to someone I knew using them. Big mistake.

They are completely clueless, seem to have a single 'support' staff member.

I transferred away as soon as possible, to 123-reg, who I am very happy with, and have numerous domains from.

For my hosting I mainly use Woaf Tech Ltd.

I'd recomend Go Daddy for any registration. Registered 30 odd domains via them for myself and others, and I know hundreds of other happy customers. They are pretty cheap as well which is a nice bonus.

Doubt it TUG, I got one for £70 a year, the difference is basically it's barebone but I get unlimited bandwidth which I always think is handy. I use UKreg.com for domains as it's solid but I wouldn't touch any other part of Farcehost with a barge pole.

I use 123reg and UKReg aswell.

My current host says for 80 quid a year I get everything above but 1.2 gig space and 20 gig bandwidth per month... hmm should I do it :)

Good and bad... kinda expensive yet unlimited bandwidth which could be a benefit...

I'm now paying 80 a year for 1500 meg space and 20 gig bandwidth, unlimited everything like POP3 mails, MySQL db's etc but I can use the bandwidth up pish easy :(

i use www.ukhost4u.com - good, reliable and reasonably cheap.

I'm interested in this offer... so I searched around and found some bad press about ukhost4u's uptime. Some comments about their servers being offline every saturday and generally bad support.

It might just be isolated incidents so I'm wondering what your uptime is like? ;)

Shame they only appear to allow 1 domain name per account, was becoming quite tempted :/

Having a good time with webmania so far. For £20/year you can't go wrong and the only downtime so far was when the mail server went down for a couple of hours.
