They fixed the big one this morning, but there are apparently lots of other little breaks that have also happened nearby so they're fixing them too. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the giant 7 week project to replace a sewer main only a few meters away.

They could start by selling full-sized cisterns in the UK and ditching the "water saving" ones.

Having to flush twice is a false economy.

While there's bazillions of litres being pissed out from under our feet, this is pretty small fry.

Only with number 2s, most of the time it isn't.

20 million households.

At Uni we figured out how much water we'd save if people didn't run the tap whilst brushing their teeth. It's lots.

Yes, but I'm not sure many people run a tap anymore while brushing their teeth.

At least Ofwat claim they'll be watching the water companies closely this time
So what exactly have they been doing since April fools day 1989 when they were signed into existence?

Oh, I know. Fuck all. It wasn't quite as intense but we were complaining about our beaches and rivers being covered in shit in the early 90's. And nothing has been done since then.

Ofwat is just a buffer that means government can point at Ofwat and say "their fault, not ours". Never forget that about these quangos. Protecting the government from criticism the primary reason they exist at all.

I predict in another 30 years we'll still be covered in shit (after a period of "oooh, aren't we doing well for your money!") by which time we'll all be dying off and the younger generation will be us, angry but not listened to.

Meanwhile, public money is still flowing to shareholders.
