And then that preset crashes the game and doesn't get through cert, the game is not released at all and people cry murder.

By reading the "official" release thread of the mod, it isn't without its problems. Which, ofcourse since it's not ubisoft releasing these options, means everyone is just "well it's wip, undestandable". If it was ubisoft releasing these options and there were similar problems it would be, again, bloody murder crying time.

Anyway, in the end it's an overhyped gta clone with no real character customization. Not worth the attention it's getting really and only goes to show that while people often ask for real content and not some BS vertical slices, they -still- fall for them head over heels.

Honestly, I think you're the only person ever who gives a shit about character customisation in story-driven single-player games. I remember you making similar comments about GTA V.

Watch Dogs is still a good game, the story is pretty awful but the hacking ideas are good, the city is huge, there's all sorts of non-story stuff to do. I don't think it's overhyped it's just annoying and disappointing that Ubisoft thinks they can bend PC gamers over like this without anybody noticing.

It's just because other games such as saints row have done a story driven single player game with an extensive character customisation, with less budget even. Not to mention any number of RPGs. Just makes a game better when you give that choice.

Especially if the "story is pretty awful" then that isn't an excuse either.

Depends on the game. You wouldn't play tomb raider or batman and want to customise yourself to look differently.

I think its quite important for sandbox games to be able to customise your character, Skyrim, Fallout etc would be crap with a fixed avatar...in saying that Watchdogs and GTA, while sandbox, are telling the story of a character so full customisation wouldn't work so well.
