10/13 is a pretty fucking awesome kill/shot ratio tbh.

True, but guns make it a hell of a lot easier to kill someone.

Try killing/wounding 10 people in 10 seconds with a knife (it's not going to happen).

Try killing someone 100 feet away from you with a knife (it's not going to happen).

Try killing someone who can run faster than you with a knife (see where I'm going with this).

but don't you see? that's not necessary is it? this sniper isn't killing ten ppl at a time is he? he's doing them one by one... and getting away, and living to fight another day.... so thinking along those lines... is it hard to find someone, somewhere, alone, in a secluded place, perhaps the park or what have you, an alley, public toilet... whatever... and knife them? you can be fairly certain of a kill when you're up close like that.... not like this sniper... i mean no matter how good he is there IS a failure rate when you're shooting from a distance...

or your next point, if you want to go postal? Katana - WAY to go. anyone with a modicum of training could kill dozens of fucking ppl in a shopping centre before being overpowered...

kez; reckon if they catch this one then sniper #2 will step up?

You are really really scary.

I bet you were one of those kids that no one used to talk to at school as everyone knew they'd get 'THE RAGE' (the rage being when the kid gets super angry and turns into the incredibly hulk fueled only by the twin streams of snot running between their nose and mouth, THE RAGE would only subside when the streams were broken.)

eew that sounds icky. there was one of those at my old school though. funny part was that he was tiny, so when he flipped you could hold him down with one hand till he passed out from frustration. poor lad.

There probably take all the FPS off the Store Shelves.

Originally posted by wolfeeh it doesn't matter what his tool is... it's the man(woman?) to blame.

My point was that it does matter what the tool is, a gun makes it easier to kill someone than a knife, this cannot be disputed.

Every fighting force in the world uses a firearm as their primary weapon (except the Swiss army obv), reason being that this is the quickest, simplest and most efficient way of taking someone down.

End of.

It's very funny listening to the people going on about the skillz of this shooter, (I refuse to refer to him as a sniper).

I've had the ridiculously sensationalist Fox News on over the last couple of weeks while this is going on, and they keep talking about things like, 'The latest shot came from as far away as 150 feet!!'. 50 yards?

Thats not in the least impressive. Shooting prone or with a stationary rest and a properly zeroed scope, at that distance, it's practically harder to miss than hit. Especially as, on any tricky shots he's going for the center body mass. The head shots are only going in on stationary targets like the woman sitting on the bench.

The kill ratio is largely as a result of the projectile he's using, which being a high velocity round relies on the shockwave through the body, and fragmentation of the round, causing a massive number of internal injuries, rather than blowing large bits of the anatomy away that a larger round might. Basically any shot that hits the torso with a round of this type, will cause so much damage to the target that they'd be very lucky to survive.

To refer to this guy as a sniper belittles the skills of the highly trained and skilled snipers in law enforcement and the military together with competitive marksmen, who shoot far more accuratly than this psycopath out to distances of 1000 yards or more.

[/rant]

I guess I'm just a bit pissed off with the out of control hero-worship this guy seems to be getting.

Funny post to start this thread though :D

Heh, pressed submit and flicked over to Sky News where a former Royal Marine Sniper was was giving his views, you've got to love British Military pragmatism. He was basically saying this fella was no trained sniper and it took no skill whatsoever to do what he's doing.

This shooter guy may not have any skills as a sniper but then again he isnt using a proper sniper rifle is he??

He's just using a common hunting rifle

You know, broken record and whatnot, but;

How can you not refer to him as a sniper?
Oxford's definition is strikingly similar, too. He may not be a professional marksman or an ex-military soldier, but he does kill from a concealed place.

There's a huge difference between Sniper and Sharpshooter (Well, Marksman)

My dad uses "a common hunting rifle" to take down stags at 200yds with one shot. Basically their heart comes out of the exit wound (or spinal column if a heart shot isn't on). Before being allowed out on a shoot he must fire 3 shots at a 100yd target and group within 1inch. Failure to do this will mean never being allowed back. Do not underestimate the weapon :)

(PS. before the tree huggers start whinging :) The (old)animals he shoots are on Water Board land up north(Shap if you know it). If they are not shot they will die of starvation, their teeth wear down and do not regrow, no teeth no food.)

They don't know what rifle he's using, but they know it's calibre is .223, also known a 5.56 mm.

This type of round is the standard round for the M16, M4A1 etc.

Not many people go hunting with Assault rifles, well not in this country anyway...

My guess is he's using an AR15, which is the Semi-Automatic version of the M16, relatively easy to get hold of in the States, and with a scope easily accurate enough for the type of piss easy shots this guys taking. It can be broken down pretty small in seconds, so he can conceal it when he's leaving the scene(probably not in a white van).

A hunting rifle for bigger animals would probably be about 7.62mm. Indeed for the purpose of punching out a Heart or spine as Yuck said. You would be a cruel bastard to go hunting with 5.56mm, cos of the way it's designed to mash up the targets insides, more than kill Instantly.
