Strange you can't join the group as it should still be open I think. Perhaps it's just a bit glitchy from the mass traffic

And true - patience is a virtue. The keys have started going out I think as a guildie already received one last night. Imagine it's a big job though.

Im just crossing my fingers that i will be considered or can someone help me out if they know what my problem is with my group membershiping.

i go to group membership page and i am prompted for my username and pass again ... i enter them and i just get sent back to the prompt page again

Did you try to delete your cookies? Sometimes that works for me in a case like this.
