I presume the € cost includes taxes whereas the $ cost does not.

Edit, it says so at the bottom of the page.

Its pretty much the same price everywhere, depending on the months forex rate.

Still...very much above what I would be willing to pay for it. Not that it isn't a high end product, just a bit much for early tech for me, especially when I will be buying a new PC and 4k monitor later in the year.

eg $800 > GBP = £576 +20% = £691
Actual price £689.

$800 > € = €735 +20% = €882
Actual price €889

tldr, price conversion is actually decent, compared to some stuff.

Now pre-orders are live the order page is saying it's £689 plus £57.60 shipping. I'm going to wait until I can afford to upgrade my PC at the same time.

That's some pretty serious wedge. Plus you need a PC that will run it, more wedge.
I'm going to hang on to see how the PS4 hardware performs. Think It'll all make me feel sick anyway.

It's cheaper than the rift+touch will be.
Plus you don't need a monster pc, <£800 is doable easily. Next gen of gpus in a few months will make it even more reasonable.

£1500-1600 for room scale VR, compared to a TV/etc, it seems ok to me.

£750-ish for what is on offer so far? they can fucking keep it. If they expect to make a profit off that price range VR will never get far, they'll have to stomach making loss on it just to get it off the shelves, then consider price hikes, £750 is way too steap for most people.

It will come down over time. Also, it's around the same cost as a high end gpu anyway so it's not massively expensive for enthusiast level equipment.

I would have thought they might have subsidised the cost (maybe they have, don't know) to shift units as it's a new tech. If people don't buy it then people won't make aps for it, if people don't make aps for it, people don't buy it, etc.

I'm just looking at it like a console really, they lose money on every console they sell pretty much (Sony & Microsoft) but they continue to churn them out regardless because of the money they'll make back via digital purchases etc, Steam could take a similar approach and sell them for around the same price as a PS4/XBox One, they'd fly off the shelves then, bigger picture people would be buying en masse software to use with it.

It's not so much the £750 price tag for Vive thats off putting, its the system you need to run it as well at a good performance, that's what will put people off it the most.

Buying all that together is basically £1500-2000 for a good enough system AND Vive.

Their target audience already have PCs that can run it. Mine could run it and I consider mine to be out of date.

Aye, that's fair enough but what I mean is, if they want to appeal to mass audiences, they need to lower the price a fair bit, the average joe either can't afford or won't be willing to pay for all of that just for the sake of VR. As for VR in general, it'll be nice when other companies start dropping VR products, price wars will begin then and hopefully they'll drop to a reasonable amount.
