I don't even know why people persist in having this discussion? Having played both (CS mainly, but I've played a fair few hours of UT), they're nothing like each other at all. All the Q3 flids who run around screaming "CS is dead!!! UT is CS for Q3" have seemingly never played the game, as the two are about as dissimilar as it's possible to be. You'd be better off comparing UT to TFC, because it probably shares more similarities with that than with CS.

Did I say they were alike? No, I merely wanted peoples opinions on the two games, and which, perhaps they feel is the superior. Yes, they are different, but also, they are very alike in many respects.

CS is superior, but that could probably be explained in part by the fact that UT is pretty new - in many ways, it reminds me of an early beta of CS, in that it is very rough.

Ok, i thought i'd add a bit more than 2 letters... going against the grain i know, but hey, what the hell...
CS : Pro's - Huge online following, doesn't need a mega-pc to run on
CS : Con's - Most of that following are lamers / llamas, the graphics engine is dated
UT : Pro's - Great graphics, refreshing difference in game-style
UT : Con's - Not too many people playing it, needs a 'beefier' pc to run it
Both games have their pro's and con's... personally, i'm biased, so i'll say that Pac-Man is better than CS, purely because of all the morons / kiddies / complete fuck-wits playing CS online at the moment...
Want something different ?? Check Strike Force out : www.strikeforcecenter.com or even Action Half-Life...

Try clicking on 'Profile' at the top of the page, then 'Edit profile' and 'Change Avatar'. Pic must be hosted on the internet somewhere and can only be 50x50 pixels. You'll get it.
