The fact that the cops pretty well let them in and even took part in a selfie will have Bidens security team rethinking where the real threats may be coming from.

I see social media companies have decided to stick trump in the corner for some quiet time.

Fucking mental scenes but the count is now happening at full speed after all the objections were rejected.

Meh I don't agree.

Mob mentality can easily sweep over sheeple. It's the instigators who need to be punished.

The people who stand at the back and egg others on.
If you don't hold people personally responsible for their own actions then chaos ensues.

We're *all* sheeples in one way or another.

Trump is a busted flush, the actions of the last 24 hours have pretty much cemented the end to his political career. A big positive from this is that the Republicans appear to have had a bit of an epiphany and are rowing back support hard, hopefully they will stop being nuts from now on.

The legal shenanigans are going to last years, Trump will die before he sees a deserved prison cell.

Wait until the next election.

After yesterday I very much doubt Trump will be a contender in the next one. There's been a lot of talk about "moving on" and not going after Trump at the Federal level, even as late as yesterday morning, but now? Do you let sedition just slide (and make no mistake, Trump's actions were just that)? I would imagine the FBI and Secret Service are prepping actions against Trump as we speak. And even if they're not, New York is going after him; I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have subpoenas ready for January 21st.

Is that even a crime in the US (it's not here - and rightly so IMO)?

And if it's a current president - which he is until Biden switches in - how do you prove that?

I think maybe they won't want precedent set of former presidents being open to prosecution for stuff they did in office. Imagine the can of worms that'd open.

NB. Can someone explain to me why it takes nearly three months to get rid of one President and swear in another? Does it feel like there are far too many steps in this process? Most of which seem to be political theatre with no actual point? The UK is hardly the bastion of governmental efficiency, but when we have an election the incumbent is out on his arse the next morning. What's the story here?

Well apparently (I only found this out last night), the "High Crimes & Misdemeanors" charge that goes with impeachment can mean anything the Senate wants it to mean, so long as they vote to agree it.

NB. Sedition in US law: “If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.”

"Two or more persons" basically covers Trump and anyone who listens to him. The rest? He used some weasel words but there's definitely enough there for a jury based on the bit I've put in bold. .

So - all the major social media platforms in the country which is a bastion of free speech de-platformed Trump.

I'm hugely uncomfortable with that. In this case it's harden his supporters - it's proof that they're against him. However, would they do the same for a minority viewpoint that was factually correct if it "incited violence"?

I'm also uncomfortable with Auntie's wording. You can report on things without passing judgement yourself - which isn't happening.

Free speech doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want and for it to have no consequences. Also if I remember the first amendment correctly it only prevents the government stopping you voicing an opinion, not corporate entities who can do whatever they like.

The only reason Trump has been able to rally in the way that he has is due to his online voice reaching and inciting violence - I was fucking overjoyed when Twitter silenced him and I hope they ban him for life for his role in yesterday’s debarcle... Can you imagine what would have happened if that crowed had been non white?

Remember “when they start looting we star shooting” oO

I can't see what's wrong with the BBC article. Compared to the foaming at the mouth i saw on CNN last night its a model of restraint.

As for blocking Trump; its not like he hasn't had a fuckton of warnings.

I don't see anything wrong with it either, they're not passing judgment. Trump and co have had 2 months to present actual evidence and all he does is repeatedly say "we have so much evidence". He even said it *yesterday*. I said after the election, if you have the evidence, present it, if you don't then stfu and accept being called a nonsense-peddling liar. His claims are false, end of.

I also don't object to social media platforms silencing him (temporarily or whatever) - every one of his messages over the last 24 hours has been laced with dog whistles for the protestors to keep going because WE WERE ROBBED etc. It's a decision as to which option is going to do less harm - letting him continue to stoke the flames or making him go and stand in the corner.

It'd never float. He didn't conspire to do anything by force.

He held a rally as "told it as he sees it".

Personally, although the scenes were ugly it's heartening in a way that if Anericans think they're being robbed they're still willing to do something about it despite risk of death ;)

Currently torrenting/seeding a 12gb archive of all the footage taken yesterday to ensure it does not get lost. The FBI are asking for evidence/videos etc and have created a website to submit information.

Also found an online archive which contains lots of footage collected. Some pretty disturbing videos in it including the shooting of the woman.

As a privately owned company Twitter has every right to block Trump from their platform, like they have any other misinformant and as it turns out, inciter of violence to the point of there being 4 dead people. They haven't silenced him they have just decided not to publish his nonsense for 12 hours.

As an air force veteran the woman should have known better than trying to jump through a window while security/police have their guns out pointing at it.
