Howdy chaps.

My Ma decided to do the decent thing over the holidays and blew up the TV in the lounge (I'm not bothered as it's well old).

Suggestions for a replacement please, say a ceiling figure of £300 (she never uses the DVD player so I'm not buying something OMG WOW just for it to be wasted).

Cheers.

Mate have a look at Richer Sounds, great offers on at the moment. That much money will get you a very nice 32" screen.

LG seems like a good one to add to the comparison list. She really wouldn't notice any difference tbh. The one that just died is a 10 year old 26 inch Hitachi so "why is this one so flat" will probably be the highlight when it's replaced!

Its what would be considered run of the mill now, its only 720, but at 32" 1080p would be lost
Why is 1080p wasted at 32" plox? What's the minimum size for 1080p?

Surely depends on the user but I expect at 32" with normal viewing distance you won't notice *that* much difference between 720p and 1080p.

Nice to have the resolution if he uses it with a pc as well.

But the cost factor is an issue, you are unlikely to find a decent 1080p TV at £300 notes. Some very decent LG and Samsung offerings at 720p at that price though, and for an extra 40 quid or so you could go 37".

the screen is not big enough to appreciate 1080p at that size, and if you are saying she's not bothered either way, why spend more money on something she wouldn't even notce

tbh ask Deebs as he knows all about it (if he's sober), he pointed me in the right direction when i got mine

Quite a few 32" HD Ready sets (720P) price around the £300 mark atm in all the normal places.
