I hope they do. The Army is trained to see everyone as an enemy and treat them as such.

My liberal tendacies are warring with my wish that someone would get out there and kick the asses of all these twats.

I strongly expect to see the army deployed in supporting roles tomorrow in fixed locations to keep control and allow the police to be more mobile and deal with problems aggresively.

Half amusingly I don't think the Para's are the right choice. Get the Gurkhas out there and see if anyone wants to fuck with them!

Got to say, watching this from across the pond I'm rather detached from it all (although I'm keeping tabs on South Woodford), but what I am surprised at is the vitriol on here towards Eskedee. I don't think anything he's said is unreasonable. Just because there are a shower of cunts busy breaking the law and generally behaving like twats it doesn't follow the police have suddenly become heroic paragons of virtue. The original justification for all this may be bullshit, but that doesn't mean the police aren't part of the problem.

Lets have a bit of a sense of perspective here, and a bit less of the nonsense about bringing in the army and declaring marshal law and all that rubbish. Be careful what you wish for.

Most of these morons will be rounded up later, staggering home with their ill-gotten gains having tweeted the results of a successful night's looting. The cops will pick them up without all the blood and guts a direct confrontation with the mob entails. If a few branches of JD Sport get a unplanned makeover, its a small price to pay in the scheme of things.

Mobile networks are all fucked in croydon btw, very hard to make calls, texts fail quite often.

Just learned my friend and colleague got stuck in croydon on his way home to purley. He only left work 30 minutes before me, he could have got a lift had he waited a bit longer :(

I know what you are saying Gaffer, but it's hard to feel like that when your home town is getting hit so hard.

I'm sorry Gaff, you're out of touch on this one. It's not a few branches of JD, it's tons and tons of shops and houses being torched. People are going to die tonight, and not the cunts with t-shirts wrapped around their faces.

The big fire in Croydon? A family business established in 1867. 20 people out of work now. Houses across the road are catching light.

You're out of touch.

Haha. A friend said a similar thing: NOT NANDOS TOO FAR!

In all fairness, it started with me being willfully inflamatory - the problem is moreso the inability for people to detach that from (what I believe to be) the reasonable things I was saying after that.

Second paragraph, I couldn't agree more with. That isn't to say I have the answers, but I am concerned about this becoming somewhat 'eye for an eye'. Be careful what you wish for is exactly right.

Blackberry Messenger has been turned off here in Birmingham to make it harder for the bored kiddies to co-ordinate with each other. Plenty of threads and pages co-ordinating activities on Facebook and other social media though.

Disgraceful scenes, absolutely ashamed of the scum.

You're out of touch.

More than that, the whole of Reeves, plus at least 6 buildings on the same block, one a large block.

I think you're taking what he posted far too literally.

Clapham junction looting, quite extensive apparently - lots of very nice restaurants and bars there, they will be hit hard. I'd imagine the big debenhams (old arding and hobbs) and the asda will be hit hard too.

The Police seem to be hanging back and trying to video everyone from the helicopters - doesnt seem the right approach to stop anything when most are masked...

Friend living in Colliers Wood can see the Tesco petrol station going up, 150 metres from his flat.

Glad I live in West London as well (Whitton). It seems unlikely to spread out here. I was expecting there to be some problems in Hounslow but it seems that the Asian/Indian areas aren't so badly hit - mainly the more Black dominated areas instead. Possibly a reflection on the stronger family/respect for elders ethic of the Indian/Asian communities?

How else can you take it?

You're the cunt getting pissed because people can't get your vague assertions.

I'm not annoyed, more baffled that you can really write off what I've been posting as 'vague assertions'. You don't have to hate people for having a differing opinion to you, or in the broader context of this thread simply being different to you in the first place.

Right the reports from Clapham junction are appaling, only 5 police to cordon off st johns road when the scum hit. The police had no chance.

Don't get me wrong, I've still got a home over there, not that far from one of the hot spots from yesterday, and my brother and my neice live there as well; but my hackles rise when I hear people talking about putting troops on the streets; you do not want that, it never ends well for anybody.

I can watch TV as well as the next person. The JD Sports line wasa bit tongue-in-cheek (although that particular establishment is getting more looted than most; wonder why?)

How else can you take it?

Nothing vague that I could see, but a lot of people being awfully literal-minded tonight.

Too many uncomfirmed reports, but apparently the Allders in Croydon is on fire, primark being looted or burnt, Tiger Tiger burning, Nandos burning.

Tandem shopping center in Colliers Wood had a Jessops burnt, and the other stores looted (argos, jd etc).

I've a ex colleague and an old school friend who think their flats have burnt, they left them much earlier, so cannot check.

The reasonable me would agreed with you DaGaffer as you never want untrained Military being used in police actions but that reasonable side is currently being overridden by a desire to see these twats suffer.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see the army deployed to protect some fixed locations and free the police up to deal more aggresively with the scum.

I think tonight, of all nights, it would pay for people to be literal, and not try and vaguely suggest things.

It's horrible, it's historic, and it's potentially a huge societal shift for this country. Society has lost control to the mob. This isn't how this country works.
