anyone who watched top gear tonight just in total shock? i know its not like a true representation of the whole country and people that live there but...... oh my fucking god.... how a country can be like that where some fucking crazy racist fucked up guys arrive in a pick up truck with guns and shit.... it was like somthing out of iraq

and the thing with new orleans.... the place looks like a war zone a year after the hurricane.... and the worlds supposed biggest "super power" has just left it as is hoping it might fix itself.... america after that to me seems like a joke, ive always thought american was a bunch of inbred idiots before but that just...... well made me think a hell of a lot less of the country and i didnt think that was actually possible :p

makes me glad to live where i live, all this proud to be american shit, they have some serious problems compared to UK and probably a lot of other european countrys, which i cant comment on because i dont live there

Don't forget the lawyer threatening to sue them for trying to GIVE AWAY a car that was 2 years older than they listed it as, topping it off with asking for a mere $20k to make the case go away.

What a shit country :p

Was funny as fuck in places, but scary in others. Unlike some previous Top Gear episodes, the scary stuff was completely unstageable (or near as dammit anyway). I mean sending Richard Hammond (looking like he's just walked off the set of Brokeback Mountain) into a fuel stop in Alabama in a white pickup with the words "Man love rules OK" and "Proud to be Gay" is *asking* for trouble, but I doubt even the producers expected to have stones thrown at them or the rednecks to try and set up an ambush further down the road.

It does make you realise what a fucked up place America is when car salesmen have to carry two guns (and a rifle with telescopic sights) to feel safe in their jobs; lawyers threaten to sue for $20,000 because a gift isn't exactly what they said it would be (2 years older than stated), and they completely ignore the people and places affected by the US's worst natural disaster in recent years.

The state of New Orleans shocked me to the core - this is the richest country in the world, and it's just been left. Roofs strewn over the ground, whole neighbourhoods deserted, streets looking like the floodwaters receded yesterday, not over a year ago. If it had been any other region of the US other than the deep south, I doubt there would be much evidence of any hurricanes by now.

Hrmm Top Gear repeated anytime in the week? Missed this and wouldn't mind seeing it.

btw about 10yrs back Michael Moore drove a truck thru the deep south with a soviet hammer and sickle painted on the side. iirc the locals set it on fire and the driver also got death threats.

Think europeans who's 'ethnic' populations are mostly relatively recent arrivals (eg the black british arriving in the 50s and 60s in the uk) don't really grasp how deep seated some of the racial shit is in parts of the US where they been at each others throats 300+yrs.

Well, didn't see it 'cause suprise suprise, i'm not from the UK.

But, as far as americans go, let 'em be. Their just having fun and being a nation, just like any other, and it shouldn't effect the life of a computer nerd that much.

Stop worrying about sh*t that doesn't concern you.

By the way, we(scandies and europians) don't look at the UK people as anything overly special over the US people...you're quite the same to us :D

Hmm, the problem I have with this statement is, why "let 'em be" when they dont "let anyone else be", if you see what I mean?

Well, since you took it completely out of context, have they invaded your country? Bothered your family? Changed the way your country runs things? Or somenot?

Common knowledge that going to hicksville USA will get you into trouble. Dont even need to do anything special to stand out. If they take offence to you (ie even if they just dont like the look of you from across the street) you are in trouble. It just the way they are outside most the main cities.

The moment they said they got to decorate the cars in a mannor that will draw unwanted attention I said they only need to write something about Homosexuality and there will be big problems. And they went and done it. They have absolutely no hasitation in showing their distaste and want to "purge" the world of it. Surprised they didnt get rammed of the road as was, but going to a small town (village if you may) and stopping with that 'decoration' was nothing short of stupidity and makes you wonder what the show producers were thinking with the "challenge"

No, I never said they did. What I meant is that they seem generally racist, bigotted and prejudice against anyone "different" to themselves.

When you said "let em be", I assumed you meant "stop verbally bashing them and thier way of life". When I said "they wont let anyone else be", I meant "they wont stop verbally bashing everyone else and our way of life, so why should we stop verbally bashing them and thier's?".

I dont think I took it particularly out of context.

I didn't mean that stop abusing them, this lot abuses everyone no matter what.

What i meant is live your life and let them live theirs. Not like the US peeps really bother us.

And like i said, UK seems just the same to the rest of the world. With the paki, chav, whatnot bashing and other chinannigans.

Do they have to bother JUST us and just OUR country to make us care about their actions? I think its quite enough if they bother any country at all imo :)

Well you CAN discuss and complain about their actions againdt other countries, but then you really should take a look at oyur homecountry and what they did and/or do.

Like example iraq, you can't really complain about their actions in iraq if you have troops there.

And also should distinquish the difference between the state of US and the citizens of US. Also take into consideration the individuals and the majority.

IT's a really teetery line when judging others :D

Made me tolerant, nice at different groups of people and less of a "make fun, not wow" guy? :D

Or in what way?

By the way Nikon, that's a misquote really.

I was just giving the UK people the "general" view of how people see the UK compared to US.

thats some fucked up view

a few years ago if we didnt give a shit about the nazis taking over europe i wonder where you guys would be now. Putting us in the same boat as the US when you have little or no knowledge of our country is quite a joke

cant belive how narrow minded and fucked up your point of view is

Most people in England didn't want to go to war with Iraq, but the government did anyway. But it seems to me that most of the people in America did support the war, and many of them still do.

Back OT, it was bloody funny, but it just showed how screwed up America is.

Why? Just because we don't see you as any different in the big picture? My view of your nation is no different then your view on the US.

If you didn't give a sh*t about the nazis, well, then the nazi's might have won and..oh right...finnish peeps were on germany's side at first. Don't know what the world would be like, but finland could be a supernation. Guesses guesses.

i didnt want my country to invade Iraq, but im not allowed to wave my opinion?

The US peeps too didn't like the war, some did, most didn't. Just like with the UK. So you can be against the war in iraq, but you can't be against the US in iraq if you're not against ALL war in iraq. I never said you shouldn't air your thoughts.
