but taking the stance of that oh look they are killing all these people, but not harming us, so thats fine lets just leave it be.

UK is no where like US, but there you are narrow mindedly stereotyping a whole country to be the exact same as another, quite ignorant. I made sure in my original post to say that all of US wasnt like that but to even an area like that in a country thats supposed the worlds biggest superpower is messed up badly. Aswell as the new orleans state and the stuff that happened with the lawyer is laughable. The stance you take is basically seeing somthing wrong, knowing its wrong and crossing over the road to ignore it while singing and dancing about how you dont care. If you think thats fine and dandy then, go right ahead. In my mind thats a fucked up point of view and i personally wouldnt want to know someone such as yourself.

So basicly you're saying that i'm a bad bad person and a f*cktard JUST 'cause i don't worry my life MORE with worrying about what a superpower across the atlantic is doing somewhere that doesn't effect me at all?

Well in fairness, your attitude there is a similar one to the old "Well, I won't bother to recycle/save power or anything because my tiny life has no real impact on the scale of things." that a lot of people use. Guess its just a personal thing in the end but i think you should always do what YOU can do.

Its not somthing i loose sleep over but to simply ignore it is going far far far to the extreme if you ask me, theres a difference between acknowledging it and completely ignoring somthing. Also ofcourse it affects you, how a country as powerful as that acts will affect a lot of the world, especially the western world.

I never said "Ignore completely what the US is doing", i said "Stop worrying about it".

There's a difference.

I'm basicly saying "don't loose your sleep over the things US is doing and you'll be living a lot easier".

You tell people off for whining over others, yet that's all you do here yourself.

Take a good look in the mirror before you start complaining.

Gees...

I just gave my point of view on it for f*cks sake!

I'm NOT telling people not to whine, i said "let them be" as in "I think we should". My opinion. I'm NOT telling people not to air thei views, i'm saying what MY views are.

Are people only riding me for this just 'cause i said UK, FOR ME, is the same in the big picture?

It's just this "If you're not with us, you're a f*cktard and a wanker and should die" attitude that's wrong with people.

I get judgemental when people start attacking me personally for my opinions.

I don't think i called anyone a bad person, or even say they were wrong, at any point yet i get attacked.

Or am i wrong there?

I guess Dukat was right afterall.

No, I never said they did. What I meant is that they seem generally racist, bigotted and prejudice against anyone "different" to themselves.

a few years ago if we didnt give a shit about the nazis taking over europe i wonder where you guys would be now. Putting us in the same boat as the US when you have little or no knowledge of our country is quite a joke

cant belive how narrow minded and fucked up your point of view is

can't believe how narrow minded and fucked up your point of view is.

:D

just shitting with you

However,

As an American, America is a huge country and if you go looking for that shit, you will find it. You will also find it in Europe, if you look for it. I saw some scary shit in the North in Britain, in fact I was more scared there than I have ever been here... but then I don't live in Texas or Alabama.

New Orleans/Louisiana is fucked on many levels. First it's fucked because the federal gov't just threw shitloads of cash at it and it was and is the most corrupt state in the country. Second it's fucked because they didn't have a building code or good laws about building in flood plains (as most of the state is a fucking flood plain since a huge portion of the continent's water shed comes straight through). That means the people were poor, didn't have flood insurance, and now that the state has adopted a building code they either can't rebuild at all or they have to jack their house up several feet.... Anyhow. It's not going to be fixed anytime soon.

You continuesly attack people that think differently than you do. Maybe not namecalling, but every possibility you get you'll let others know just how you think if anyone posts a different opinion that you carry, and you'll repeat it time after time. You are just as intolerant to people carrying other opinions as you blame others to be.
I don't think i called anyone a bad person, or even say they were wrong, at any point yet i get attacked.

Yes, you do call other people bad persons. Not in those exact words, but definately shows from the opinions you sprout here.
I guess Dukat was right afterall.
Don't know. Don't think you really were any different before. A bit lower profile perhaps, but not different.

Gangs of teens roaming the council estates with tacky heavy gold earrings... and that was just the girls!

Nothing especially bad. That wasn't my point, my point was USA is a big country. If you look at an area that big you will find crazy things. I am sure you can find them in Europe as well.

Please do show me where i did anything but tell my opinion of it?

Don't ASSUME i think something, just because it might read to you that way.

I'm not blaming anyone, or have blamed, of being intolerant. Sure, i say if i think that i have a different view, but isn't that an opinion?

Why is it an attack on others? And HOW do i call them bad persons?

Did i do it here? Did i call people bad persons by saying i think US ain't that bad?

I don't get why i'm intolerant if i don't think like others and say that i think differently. You say i attack people with it, then are everyone attacking others if they don't agree?

I'm trying to understand your view here, but it just seems like you don't like me, period.

Dude - they are just disagreeing with you.

Ironically, you use to attack me for my defensive stance yet you're very much the same ;)

Don't have time to reply on it all at the moment, but just wanted to leave a quick remark about this part:
I'm trying to understand your view here, but it just seems like you don't like me, period.

No, I don't like you most of the time, but there are also moments where you make some nice witty remarks. Overall, you're not a person I'd feel I'd go and drink a beer with.
That aside, what I said here I'd say to anyone whether I like 'em or not, and my personal opinion on you has no bearing on whatever I wrote here.
Those points I mentioned are just what I notice you doing. You often make remarks on people in line of "live and let live" and such, however the notion that you feel the need to make those remarks to people seems to me that you do not let people live the way they want. If they want to make remarks about people, that's their way. You could also let them live that way.

The state of New Orleans shocked me to the core - this is the richest country in the world, and it's just been left. Roofs strewn over the ground, whole neighbourhoods deserted, streets looking like the floodwaters receded yesterday, not over a year ago. If it had been any other region of the US other than the deep south, I doubt there would be much evidence of any hurricanes by now.

jesus you know its bad when someone from Leeds thinks the place looked like a disaster zone! :p

I remember a program put on about the KKK etc, some Jewish presenter iirc, and the guy said on camera, "if that camera wasn't there, i would shoot you right now." Americans are so fucking stupid sometimes, especially in the far out parts.

Infagrinn, thanks. Just what i wanted to hear and i need to take a look at how i do bring forth my point of view, i bet there's something to change.

I've always said, i'm no saint, i'm a cold bastard at times(well, was mainly), immoral for sure when it comes to some things and a lot more. But intolerant is one thing i never thought ofmyself as, and tried my hardest not to become. One of my leading views in life, as you said, live and let live kinda guy.

I get now what you mean by it working against me, and i'll try to work around it, maybe air my opinions in a different fashion, ofcourse i won't change my opinions about things without valid persuation, but that's just how opinions work.

Anyhoop, thanks for actually taking the time and answering 'cause in the end i really needed to know "why".

Bugz, you remind me of myself at times, and even if i sometimes give you a few shovels of sh*t, i think you know that it's all in good fun. Those shovels of sh*t gave me points of view on life that helped me so i thought hey, this kid could use some too :D

Not that i didn't just purely enjoy making you squirm ;)

wow, this thread got bumpy! :D

Toh, I was kinda only joking before, I do not really remeber having a political discussion with you before "The Clown Avatar™" arrived :p

To me, everything someone else says should be read with heavily emboldened ["IN MY OPINION"] tags around it. I find this a good idea because people often say things that either makes me angry or whatever. Its easy for things to turn into a courtroom sparring match with long words and lots of grammatically complex sentences being typed out.

At the end of the day, everyone has thier own opinion, even if I say thier opinion doesnt count or is wrong, that is only my opinion. Other people can then say that my opinion is wrong, but this is only thier opinion. (Still with me? good :D) I tend to say what I think, call it as I see it, like you. I tend to avoid opening large cans of worms because as I say, there are times when it ends up turning into a battle of grammar in a court of public opinion, which isnt my idea of a fun way to spend an evening!

I think this discussion turned ugly because people read things in the wrong context (me included) and got the wrong impression about what other people were trying to say.

From what I can see, people read what Toh was saying but got the wrong impression about what he was trying to say, Seel bashing of the unfair kind ensued, and Toh (rightly imo) reacted defensively.

Also, I have a confession to make, even though I seem to have opened this big ole' can of worms, I didnt actually watch top gear in the first place

rofl. :D

Guess it's all about there you're from, most of us from England just ignore scum like that, sometimes it's easier than others. Mind you, I'd be more scared going to America and finding 20 black guys in basketball tops down to their ankles with baseball bats and guns.

I'm not anti american. The country like most others does have some serious issues in places. The; This is gods country thing.
They call the president leader of the free world. They crown their national champions in American football and baseball world champions. Redknecks, religious nutters. The "We saved your ass in WW2" argument, fat people, Bush... etc etc
But most americans are aware of the countries issues, and, i guess, are pretty tired of getting told their country is rubbish.
the US is a country with more than average flaws to it. But i don't think those crazy redknecks should represent all the americans.

That being said.. f00k me those hillbillies are screwed up ^^
for those who missed it here is a clip http://www.filecabi.net/video/topgear-rednecks.html

Was funny as fuck in places, but scary in others. Unlike some previous Top Gear episodes, the scary stuff was completely unstageable (or near as dammit anyway). I mean sending Richard Hammond (looking like he's just walked off the set of Brokeback Mountain) into a fuel stop in Alabama in a white pickup with the words "Man love rules OK" and "Proud to be Gay" is *asking* for trouble, but I doubt even the producers expected to have stones thrown at them or the rednecks to try and set up an ambush further down the road.

While it might well actually have been real staging it would of probably been fairly easy. There was at most about 20 people at that petrol station. Simply having some assistants turn up 20 minutes before hand with a couple of grand and asking the locals to "put on a show for a laugh" would probably of worked.
Probably the biggest giveaway as to the fact it wasn't completely uncoordinated was how spotlessly they re-painted the cars after the event given they were doing it in such a rush.

I'm fairly sure the bit with the cow at least had some set-up given how unlikely the whole thing was.

Was all funny as hell tho! The best bit had to be Hammond driving towards that aligator pit tho.. Go GO Go... shit!
