Indeed, yet nearly everyone in the UK had heard at least 3 Linkin Park songs and several L.B songs from that album.

That is a big claim to make without any evidence to back it up. It looks like an assumption based on how many people you knew had it.

I've heard of Linkin Park, only that one song that everyone puts in DAoC videos though. You know the one: "WAAA BECOME SO GAAAH" etc. then it goes quiet and some prat starts "rapping".

Not heard of Limp Bizkit though, and after looking them up on wiki I am 100% certain that I don't want to listen to their music.

its not that big a claim to make. the 'nearly' part makes it so, i mean, if the mass media is doing its best to make something heard, theres not much an average person can do about it. after all, the 'average' person in the western world watches 30+ hours of tv per week (iirc, it might even be more) and if the songs are often used in commercials, trailers, played on music channels etc, the average person will have heard popular material like that. add to that the fact that a lot of people listen to radio playing pop music (while driving/doing housework/whatever) and its even more likely that they have heard it.

PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

Released October 2000 and still my favourite album of the decade.

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

another genre defining album too surely. Not a bad song on it, and First it Giveth and Go with the Flow are awesome

They would probably be my 2 stand out albums of the last 10 years.
