Took me 2 years to realize that...

My guild never has a 'perfect' RvR group out cos we don't have the numbers at lvl 50 and we still manage to always have a good time. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.

We're not an uber guild, we're not a massive guild, we're a little guild of about 40 people (around 20 active more than the others) and we're about 48th in the list of Midgard guilds by rps. But, we have fun whenever we go RvRing and we take people of all levels out in our groups when we go.

I had my lvl 29 spiritmistress out in Hadrian's Wall the other night and she was actually 'quite' effective. The pet interupted people, I got some debuffs and DDs sticking (she's Dark spec btw) and generally had a bloody good night.
Now if my guild took the - perfect group only attitude - she wouldn't be allowed to go out RvRing for another 21 levels.

The ones thinking the only way to RvR is with some 'perfect' group are the ones thinking of how to farm the maximum number of rps in my view. Which doesn't always mean the best way to have fun ;)

If you are any of the following, you are allowed to have fun : a buffbotted stealther, a determination tank, a primary healer, a primary speed provider, an end (fatigue) bot, a primary mezzer.

If you are any of the following you may be allowed to have fun : PBT provider, PBAOE caster.

If you don't fit in any of the above description you may as well reroll or /quit DAoC.

Am I the only to have taken so much time to realize that ? Please people, cheer me up and tell me i'm not alone :p

Hedek,
RR5 Friar (whiner) Excalibur
RR7 Healer (having fun) Ys
RR4 Thane (used-to-be-a-whiner, now retired) Ys
RR5 Zerk (used-to-have-fun, now retired) Ys
RR3 Bonedancer (farming gold) Ys
RR5 Chanter (having fun, will-whine-when-enemies-on-my-server-learn-how-to-play-against-pbaoe-groups) Broceliande
have played most alb classes in rvr
i have scout cleric and theu lvl 50 and i have played icewizz palla merc friar (friends chars)

only fun imo is make a fotm group class (chanter or savage) and join a good rvr guild run in 1 fg and pwn other fgs
no zerg
but i am still in alb passing my time and waiting for WoW ... with my cleric powahh and konnorel we have our good moments when 3 albs ppl pwn larger groups :)

The game was heading towards that way for a long long time. Mentalists are as common in rvr as thanes are.

The amount of classes that have fallen along the way side is quite high.

Now after some thoughts, and reading your replies, i'm know asking myself... is it really mythic who "kicked" many classes out of RvR or is it in fact players.

I mean if a handful of power gamer players, RP thirsty didn't started to reject classes and try and set perfect classes group wouldn't that have never started ? I mean it's somehow a chain reaction : if some guild starts doing so, enemy guilds would do so to just to be able to compete because of that first guild.

So in the end, who's to blame, Mythic ? or FC, VGN, CF, RG, LA, NP and guilds alike ? But at the same time doesn't it make the whole RvR more challenging ? Really, I'm confused but in the meanwhile I want to have fun and my view of fun isn't dying to 90% encounters.

I remember that night when I went to Odin's because I couldn't find any group in Emain. I started soloing and died to duoing and trioing enemies, normal. So I went and grouped with some shield wielders soloing there (reaver/merc/mincer/paladins and such). Everytime we met enemies we out numbered, they would always rush at me (friar) to at least get a kill, and forth it went, 4 hours of RvR, i got about 1k RPs while the fellow I grouped with got 15K+. Then I started complaining to Whyp (Pin) and the other reaver he often groups with and they ended up telling me I was a "whiner, rp-hungry and maybe I simply didn't know how to play my friar". While indeed I was complaining for not getting RPs, what I really meant by that was "not having fun".
What I'm trying to say is that RPs are a good way to measure fun, and maybe those of you who say are having fun even with not "wanted" classes you're also admitting to die often, so those killing you are maybe having much more fun than you.

Saw your deathspam in Odin's last night as i was running around there. A caster trio seems to work well. ;)
Body debuff hurts though, lucky me i run faster than you guys. :p

"Ahh yes. So tell me, when did this happen?"
When did what happen? I was speaking in general, not of specific incidents.

"And since it obviously inflicted serious mental trauma on you, did you seek professional help?"
No, I prefer to revel in my insanity.

"My guild never runs in those numbers except for our weekly keep takes, and the only time we took such a zerg to Emain was when we took Dun Bolg and waited in vain for the Hibs to show up and try to retake it."
Of course you don't, you just posted that you do above for kicks.

"Also, you are aware that Hibs for the last months have justified their zerging with the exact same excuse, i.e. that it is the only way to counter savage groups?"
*shrug* I don't really care what "hibs" might or might not have said, my viewpoint is my own, not that of a random group of players you picked.

"Perhaps you should either play Excalibur for a while, or stick to your Prydwen merc and say nothing in the matter at all?"
Worried about people commenting on your views that much that your only recourse is to tell them to go away, aww there there.

"And hmm, "maximizing your character's potential"; in the context of this thread, I take that to mean "rolling a character with maximum potential", right?"
Wrong. I mean not having crap gear and learning how to play your character properly.

"So tell me, with all this said and done, how is our SS guild groups different from the 2 FGs of high-RR LA that were making Emain insecure for all of yesterday evening?"
Hmm Hibs defending Hibernia makes emain "insecure", interesting viewpoint. Here's a newsflash for you - Emain isn't part of Albion. Anyway, I don't believe I said that it was better or worse if LA did it instead of you. Please try to avoid transferring your prejudices on to me. In fact if you'd bothered to read my post I actually said you were in the same league as them, so how you got the idea I was criticising you over them I have no idea. Guilty conscence maybe?

"Wow, that's a lot of questions."
Yes, and so few of value. *sigh*

You died near amg to Zoia and a friend (a Thane, I think), me and Nightpetal killed them. While resting a SB PAs me and we kill him.

You PM me with something like "why me?".

You get rezzed and go through amg and get jumped by ~6 hibs (casters mostly). Me and Nightpetal come through afterwards and kill them all.

You PM again with similar.

You get rezzed wander off and some NSs jump us, we kill them.

You PM again with "it's not fair, you get all the RPs!"

You reach hmg and die fighting to 3 more, we come along afterwards and kill them.

After more PMs from you we hear that you're talking on CS pad saying that me and Petal were stealing all your kills.

You port again and ask to group so you can get some RPs, I turn you down, cos by now we're getting a little irritated..

Yes, you came across as a whining RP-whore, and me and Nightpetal were just out to have fun together.

I'm saying that since you don't play Excalibur you have no way of passing accurate judgment on the RvR situation here.
"So tell me, with all this said and done, how is our SS guild groups different from the 2 FGs of high-RR LA that were making Emain insecure for all of yesterday evening?"

When I said "insecure", I meant it in the best possible way (as in "making life insecure for the Albs there"), it was not a flame. Perhaps it is a Swedish saying that does not carry across accurately.
In fact if you'd bothered to read my post I actually said you were in the same league as them, so how you got the idea I was criticising you over them I have no idea.
You said that zerging put us on the same level as "people who run perfect groups and steamroll 1fg newbs". Well, LA does not only have "perfect" high-RR groups (that steamroll newbies), they also run as 2 FGs (where we usually only have one of the two). Oh, and the reason I brough LA into all this is that I know you are (or used to be) a member there.

its a good point...

but again it just boils down to class balancing and mythic not really understanding whats good and what isnt.

The best thing to do really is to make 3 characters.

1 stealther
1 group RVR that shouldnt get nerfed
and 1 PVE character.

it is frustrating though when u think of the effectiveness of certain classes in the roaming RVR.

Whyp I never said you stole any kill, but that's not the point.
You were here to have fun... so was I and your description of what happened that night clearly describes how unfunny that evening was for me. I'm really sorry for having "disturbed" you with my pms but at the same time I was quite annoyed you turning me down after you've made some kills by taking advantage of the fact I was aggroed first.

Ah... So you suggest I watch you die, then /clap, /cheer and /wave the hibbies along afterwards? Or get on IRC and tell the hibs to wait around a minute cos you want a rematch so you can take your RPs?

Sorry. You were in a fight. You lost. We killed them afterwards.
