amidst the usual shite, and this existed on BW as much as it does now, you find the one or two gems that makes coming back worth while.

There may be too many shit threads in FH general, but that doesn't mean that FH is heading down the tubes.

Like it or not, the General forum users are the minority on this BBS, with the most active participants being the DAoC players. They have all the rants/raves/flames old BW'ers could possibly want, along with some intelligent discussion.

So, just because the General 'regulars' have a feeling of doom and gloom, doesn't mean the rest of the boards think the same.

If I could think of a perfect close to any conversation as of late, the above would be it. I want FH to succeed, I have also tried for 12 months elsewhere to try and make people see and they wouldn't budge. FH and some of its mature staff members have actually listened to some things I have said, not all and by Christ I'll be the first to admit I am not always right, but this in itself is great testimony to the potential of FH I think myself. FH isn't made up of Elite promoters, some realise the potential for just being friendly and encouraging, simply because this is how it all started. The perfect evolution of the BW community was one built on trust and you were respected for what you contributed as an individual, this is what gave you Elite Status. Not simply because you could mouth off on a forum... FH was first born of an idea that meant doing shit 'together' .. Elite snaked in later .. (fact)

The COC as it stands is a farse, it isn't used here at all, just recently there has been more verbal and personal assaults than at any other time, it is diabolical in the sense that the few wish to dictate to the many, most are just simply shouted down if they don't toe the line. I don't go for Elite at all tbh, I respect those that contribute a lot to the online community, in a forum capacity to support FH you would need to be seen to be encouraging others to get my respect, and I'm not going to change I'm afraid, even if I am on my own.

Elite is something to be earned in reward for your contribution to FH + community / gaming scene, not just because you can smart mouth on a forum, real forum support for FH supports as many members as possible and in turn hopefully finds people with potential to do things here, the general forum is something to be massaged and picked, it should be 'the jugular vein' of a community that fits as much traffic through it as possible, all kinds. From this you can build again, it can be done, if a few just accept the fact that General Forum means General Posts.

..let people talk...everyone and anyone.

The whole thread appears to be one big case of cabin fever - if you ask me.

*waits for a witty, to-the-point-two-to-three-words-Clown remark...*

Completely and utterly right as ever.

It was so much more fun when it was free reign - within reason of course - and the flames were just part of the fun. You had the occasional wanker who took it too far but for the most part it just made the forums a bit livelier and more interesting. There was drama, there were arguments, there were completely and utterly inane/banal conversations and none of that seems to happen here.

How about moving all the entertainment forums back in here so there's a few more interesting topics in General?

(you can make it 18+ if you like, I'm 18 now so I don't care!)
Diddums!

I'll mod if asked - I've plenty of experience doing it, on Wireplay and BW - I was one of the superdy-duper mods on WP with mod access over all the forums, and in the WP & BW Q3 forums in particular.

So I've plenty of knowledge of what should and shouldn't be modded from a "use your nouse" POV.

The Coc should be trimmed down enormously, and include only those things which are blatantly necessary (IE no bigotry or rascism or talk of illegal acts, more to protect TPTB at Freddys than anything), and mods appointed. They should be given guidelines on what sort of things should be modded and what shouldn't be, and then let loose the dogs of war.

When I was appointing mods on WP, I looked for someone who had a sensible head on their shoulders, which invariably meant someone aged 21+ (although not always), long time member of the community, and someone who generally contributes in a positive fashion.

They should also have thick skin, because whenever anything gets moderated, it will invariably upset someone somewhere. Even if it's blatantly obvious why it was deleted/edited or whatever.

The other forums should be tidied up in general - Sims, RPGs & RTS games could all be combined into one open forum, because the general footfall through those individual forums doesn't justify their individual existence. Of course I exclude DAoC from the above, as it needs it's own forum(s), as otherwise other topics would get lost amongst the DAoC traffic.

Action & FPS Games - other than HL(2) and BF(1942/V) this should again be one single forum. See above for reasons.

Tecnation - this could possibly be amalgamated into two sub-forums - Hardware and Software.

These are just my thoughts, and shouldn't be taken as recommendations btw.

Someone available in the evenings and at weekends would be ideal. :)
That's generally the only times I am available anyway - no net access in work anymore.

:(

Suppose it means I get some actual work done though.

I think I daydreamed and lost a few days. Xanes gone, Manks banned, Jonty's disappeared with a handkerchief tied to a stick over his shoulder, and we're back at this whole "the forum is shit" thing?

I haven't been posting so much recently, but that's most because I'm really busy and not because of any noticeable increase in pooiness. I don't think more modding is really needed, just to sit it out and wait for things to chill out again. The only reason we really needed the general forum modded on BW was because we ended up with goatse, giant light spewing vaginas, and loads of anti semetic crap. The only problem I really see now is a lack of interesting things to say, and some flaming (but then I am easily distracted and could have missed lots of other stuff).

Anyway, fluffles all round.

Sorry to join in so late, but I'm pretty much with Yuck, lets go for some good ole fashioned anarchy and proceed basically cocless.

Only exceptions would be the racism, bigotry, blatant trolling style where people are continually, consistently and obviously out of line.

I only found BW about 8 months or so before game arrived, it was Wills fault I'll have you know. That freedom of expression for better or worse was the best time in my experience of it since, imo.

Some people still got banned, mainly for not realising that they had crossed a line, and that line was a long way distant, so it was really obvious to everyone else what had happened.

Bin the CoC, mod only to stay the right side of the law, not in an attempt to mould an unnatural sanitised forum, and lets give it a rip!

There's always a thread or a post or two with people complaining about the calibre of threads every so often. Usually it was scooba or someone like that but now it's someone elses turn. :D

Why not be pro-active? Do something about it? I would be I'm perfectly happy with the standard of threads here, then again I'm perfectly happy talking shite at the best of times.
