TOA: Master Levels

IGN July 1st

Matt Firor: We are working on the design and implementation of Master Levels as I type this, so there's not a lot I can share with you. However, we can tell you that the skill and abilities you'll get from MLs will be "horizontal" in nature, not "vertical" - that is to say your character will become more full featured, but not necessarily strictly more powerful. Think of it more as your character gets more tools in their toolbox.

RPG Vault Sept 12th

Matt Firor: Master Levels comprise the new skills and abilities that players learn after completing each Trial. The skills / abilities / spells they learn differ depending on their class and general archetype (i.e. fighter or mage, etc.). In general, we are trying to expand the character's toolbox with these new skills - that is, to make them more well-rounded but not necessarily strictly more powerful. That being said, a player who has completed all nine Trials and has nine Master Levels will be at least a little more powerful than a player who hasn't.

Recent GameZone.com

"We are adding some new player abilities called "Master Abilities" that players receive after they successfully complete a Trial, but these are general purpose (although more useful in RvR) and won't change gameplay too much."

The truth:

You will be forced to buy TOA and go through the painstaking process of getting all master levels for all 10 of your lvl 50s to become viable in RVR again.

Great

Humm im wondering what these "trials" will be like, more than likely just killing different levels of mobs. But if they put thought into it and made the trials interesting and varied then.....yes id buy it.

i hope :(

There's about 2/3 weeks until release and at the moment the only people who are testing/balancing the Master Level Abilities are the TLs and Devs. This could turn out worse than the Realm Abilities balance fiasco.

I'll have 10 characters (soon to be 12) that need to sit through hour after hour of more mob bashing to be able to compete at the top level of RVR again. Let's be honest who believes that mythic can truely make the trials more interesting than a glorified quest. Running around a lot does little to make me believe that I am on a quest of 'Epic' proportions.

I actually look forward to this expansion, some more fluff is great. I do hope that it wont take forever to get ML10 (if it is 10, cant remember). :/ But i would rather see the RvR expansion though.

I hate those must do things, I want to rvr not spending all my free time doing some booring quest.

Remember my first char was out rvr alot from lvl 40+

Now get 50, do quest/go tg for itams, farm cash, get sc, get procs, get ra's

Spend over 60p on my main char... hours of farming/salvage for must do things

now u all go buy that new thing.

dont sleep 1 week, need to get to master lvl of something.

if u dont, some1 always has, u go rvr, master lvl pwns your arse, u go cry to mommy and then whine in here 100 pages.

and after little time has went , u have your master and then u pwn in rvr, and brag about here that how uber u r.

or u just buy what ever pack comes, play it 2 weeks, get bored and u know u need to be master something to rvr again as u used to. and u really dont wanna waste time of more xp stuff and then u just uninstall game and continue your RL.

or u just dont buy it and then u continue your RL

ouh boy, they just have to make sure that those who still play daoc after all this need to have what ever expansion.

well it makes cash in short time more, but maybe thats their point, take all cash in to firm, as long as peeps play.

becuase what i have seen, new games age line is about 2 years, then there is so many new games out and peeps change to different games, daoc been lucky 1 because there aint many same kind of stuff at the marker atm, but will come inside 1 year at least 3.

p.s. Adari, i can c things on other wiev also, because got bored of moaning and stuff in game , and stuff what u been reading from bw last 2-3 months. and i can say what i wanna, its my opinion and u can go cry to your mom about it, dont bitch to me, or i sent boys from the hood to give u some knee surgery with shot guns.

and after all u have red, smile, because i am =)

If the "new pve" consists of quests involving things like killing the dragon with 3fg (ie. PvE encounters that require thought and practice rather than just numbers) then this is a good thing imo. 50+ rvr makes you better at pve, no reason why the reverse shouldn't be true.

If it involves quests like the one to reach level 50 (go kill 10,000 fricking trees all of which are identical, require no particular tactics, and always spawn exactly here), then it's an entirely bad thing.

I guess we'll have to see.

this cant be taken as fact, but read on this board that people who are beta testing master levels are saying that its nothing like normal quests. So I dont think it will be pure mob bashing, but there might be some tought process in it, which might be less liked by some of the rvr people who feel that they need the master levels.

Anyway lets see what the master levels actually are before saying that you need all 9 of them to rvr.

Would be funny if only elf enchanters would venture out that day.
Would really annoy Albs, maybe enough to break through the Border keep.

I wonder how many percent of Excalibur that will leave this game when ToA get here...

25-50% ?
