ToA indirect Caster boost?

Alot of you will read the title and think 'What are you Crazy' but it is a boost imho.

The Main problem with casters is spellcrafting and resists/Surviability.

With ToA out Tanks are going to want to cap a 15% attack speed, Style damage, Melee damage(at least those 3). This will lead to 'Imcomplete' templates, resists not being capped so casters will be able to do more damage without having to worry about the normal 350(-250) nukes.

Also Bodyguard
This will change the MA's target from the casters to the Shield tank or Offensive tank giving casters time to do there job.

Suddenly a Assist debuff caster group looks a whole lot better

Meleehaste, -damage, -styledamage, -castspeed and stuff like this will be capped at 10% with next patch. And imho it's impossible to cap all this stuff without sacrificing a lot of other stuff. So yes, it may be an indirect caster-upgrade, which is much needed for non pbae-casters imho.

Is it? Tanks can choose whether they want to gimp their resists or not. Casters have to make sacrifices to get + cast speed etc too as well. So that's not the caster boost.

However, I still think it IS a caster boost, mainly cause Cast Speed, Cast damage, Debuff value, Spell duration and Acuity cap increases are all very nice increases to casters which will help them more than the tank boosts.

Any boost they make to casters will boost PBAE casters more than the rest, imo.

imo the only real caster boost in this is clearly Bodyguard which sort of was very needed, but it could be that Mythic have overdone it like they always seem to do, and made it too powerful... It is a step towards more balanced groups perhaps though, less tank or caster only groups?... But some of each kind.

Ilum- About casters having to gimp themselfs- While a Tank to be protected from casters would need to Cap 6 resists, a Caster to be protected from Tanks would need 3 resists. You are right tho :) Can't wait to get my Sorc +25% spell range/Cast Speed

Which is ofcourse what we want?

Variation is the spice of life, guess why so many have started to consider daoc stagnant and dull? :)

Just to make a new template after next patch when cast-speed-cap gets lowered to 10%?

wrong.

Casting speed, range and damage is also getting lowered to 10%, afaik

"A new cap has been added that limits the bonus from ToA items and the amount of new ToA buffs that one character can receive. Previously, characters received the full bonus. Now, they are capped to be level divided by 5, total, for each of those three buffs."

Edit: anyone know if spell duration and debuff bonus, healing bonus and buff bonus also get capped at 10%?

Im pretty sure its only the melee/cast/archery (range)/spd/dam that gets "nerfed" to 10% - rest stays at 25%.

You can read stuff that got nerfed in 1.68 patch notes. However, some stuff was forgotten about and included in a later grab bag.

Well, if you think about it the casters will prolly only sacrifice by shaving a bit off their magic resists...which only benifits other casters anyhow...so is a boost :).

Also, even after the nerf AoM 1 or 2 is still cheap enough to be worth picking up to round out ur template if resists are a bit weak imo (well after rr5 or whatever). So can still 'plug the gap' easy enough.

I have to disagree, the main problem with casters is the interupt system - high resists can be countered with debuffs and AE spells+blockbots help with surviability.

Bodyguard is a big boost for casters and so are some Artifacts (10min mezz/stun immunity anyone?). I'm fairly sure Bodyguard will get nerfed, its way too overpowered as it is. Imagine 700 range CC-immune single insta heal without reuse timer, that's almost the same as Bodyguard is against tanks. Afaik, there is nothing to counter Bodyguard with for tanks (in some situations Forceful Zephyr might help a bit but that's about it). Even small changes would make BG more tank friendly, automatically targetting the Bodyguarder instead of just giving the name would help lots tbh - according to yanks your group is nuked to hell and back before you find anyone to melee with after all that BG swapping :eek6: Then again, they are Yanks :p

I'll rephrase then :)
The main problem for RR5+ Casters is surviability/Resists

The banelord ML1 ability is suppose to be very overpowered for tanks when they face casters... not sure if it was fixed, i haven't tried it myself yet but i remember people whining about cast speeds becoming as slow as 7 seconds.(of course it could be the silly over-reacting of the yanks as usual who knows until we try i guess :p )

Got it on my champion. Buffed lurikeen PB'er who faced the ML1 Banelord ability + my champ dex/qui debuff PB'ed at approx 3~seconds per cast.

But a Firbolg druid facing those 2 debuffs on him and wants to cast a spreadheal hmmmmmmmmm... ages!

Banelord ML1 is resisted alot tho ;)

RR5+ wont make debuffs, AE spells or blockbots disappear :p MoC is up once every 30mins and its interuptable so it isn't that big help ;) But yeah, without debuffer high resist are pain for casters. With better interupt-code casters surviability would be better.

Uber templates require alot of artifacts, many of which require 1-2fg's just to farm them, and then u have to xp them all which leads there there degridation etc :(

There are some good templates out there, but many use RoG's now which means we cant dupliate them, tis a pitty thou.

Maybe ppl would like post there ToA templates so others can see/build on them, many templates ive seen are crap to start with, but over time ppl gave adapted them leaving the base componants the same which is how all the good templates are born.

So make a thread and post imo !

Healing caps and ablities stay at 25%.

This is a tactic by mythic to increase the duration of an RvR battle. Making the Healers better healers and making there job easier means that tanks/casters can stay alive alot longer and fights will go on and on. Im sure we have all had that 15-20min fight against an even matched team where nobody did anything wrong and only down to time and pot / mcl timers did 1 side win :D. Imagine how long fights will go on for now that Healers have all these caps and there master ablities are pretty amazing.

This isnt the first time mythic Introduced a means of extending RvR Battles though, the Adding of RA's which reduce damage.

Baod for hib, Suuuuuure they couldnt fix a bug that meant it effected the whole grp for 1+ year ?.

Bof, basically making tank grps insane to kill with other tank grps.

Faith heal, Ignore Pain, AM < bard RA>. Even the Addition of Spread heal, which essentially made Healers 1 button spammers ;). Good healers didnt always just spread heal ofc but omg did it help those, slower , individuals.

Also when resist's were made easier to cap with SC and amazing 'free' quest items and Ofc AoM. Reducing the amount of caster damage, because it was casters that were killing huge amounts of ppl in such a short space of time, so thus they seemed gimped, while ofc they werent but there silly amount of defence and interuption at the drop of a hat did leave them without any ace's up there sleeves.

Toa is just another bump to increase the amount of healing that can be dealth and a small increase in damage to keep everybody else happy ;).

Longer Battles is what they wanted, well we will see how it works I guess.

Not sure what setup will be best, but looks to me a combo is gonna be nice.
Savage using a 35 % cold debuff proc and a rm sm bd to assist seems possible.

1 thing for sure there is gonna be long long fights and some fights done in blitz time.

Not been out doing rvr yet and not gonna rvr til I got all my stuff and ml8+ but cant wait and see what is gonna be like.

You've not heard of Legendary(elemental) weapons? :/

if a Savage is hitting me with a 94% weapon with a low UV i'd be happy :)
But you have a point

afaik debuffs don't interupt, AoE spells...if they are AoEing i've either been mezzed and have a pbaoe group on me(i'm dead either way) or i'm getting nuked for 100 damage instead of 600 and quite happy i have a Quickcast :)

My point was that RR5 wont change things at all. RR5+ or not, interupts remains as the biggest problem imo, MoC wont help much. However, you can still /assist debuff nuke so resists wont be a problem (castable debuffs does interupt btw :p) and use AE spells and blockbots to increase your surviability.
