Religion was started by some alien race who dropped us (geneticaly modified aliens - humans) on Earth for some reason and created the Bible for us. :fluffle:

Lol. I saw a program about that on Bravo about 2 weeks ago. Apparently there are thousands of people around the world who believe it and the numbers are growing all the time. They claim that God was the head alien and Mary was a human who was impregnated by the alien and Jesus was born. They also believe that the aliens will one day return and do something-or-other, I think I got bored and changed the channel at that point.

Oh, and they also claim that the Egyptians were assisted in the creation of the pyramids by, you guessed it, the aliens.

may sound bollox that aliens helped build the pyramids, but why not? look at mars, there is so much natural 'artifical' shapes and stuff. there is all kinds of geomatery and shit its just people do not want to believe anything unless a scientist tells em its true.

and if you believe it but a scientist doesnt, it means your an idiot! i think when people call others idiots, its their own way of hiding from reality.

Well, unless something can be proven wrong then there is always a possibility of it being true - no matter how stupid it sounds. You have to keep an open mind when it comes to this sort of thing because the truth is that no one really knows. At this point in time there is only speculation and there might only ever be speculation. Who knows?

the thing about science is its all about change and progress so what they thought was impossible say a hundred years ago we now do it all the time with out even thinking about it, i watched this tv show last night about human mutations and there was a little girl called tiffany who was born with mermaid syndrome (where both her legs are merged together with her feet poking out at the end like a flipper) due to modern medical technology the doctors were able to seperate her legs and she can now walk and lives like a normal teenaged girl, even as little as 20 years ago this would have been untreatable causing the lower half of her body to collapse in on its self and she would have died. so scientists may say now that time/inter dimentional travel is totally impossible but then in a hundred (or maybe less) or so years who knows, its always changing so its naieve so say never.

Then why the hell didn't it turn 30 years FORWARD (which would give our current time), when pulled back through the vortex?

A Sound of Thunder, By Ray Bradbury.

If you've not read it, it's well worth it... And I do believe it's planned as a movie now. Of course, a short story into a movie means lots of "extra bits".

Ah yes, the good ol' IMDB has it right here.

Aye, it's a damn fine little tale! I read it back when I was in school studying English Literature (which was a very long time ago now!! )... I just hope it's not "Hollywood'ed Up" and completely different.

But then, we know how that will turn out! ;)

How about this :

Say an object has 4 dimensions : x,y,z for its location in space and t for time

My apple here on my desk is now at x,y,z,t

In 10 minutes my apple will be at x,y,z,t+10
In 11 minutes I will move it and it will be at x+2,y,z,t+11

Somewhere in the future I will send my apple back in time.
If I send it to t won't it always appear at x,y,z and if I send it to t+11 won't it always appear at x+2,y,z ??

1. Do not eat or use products from any animal that is fed and eats parts of its own dead.

2. Do not kiss or have intimate relations with anyone you do not know.

3. Learn basic sanitation and water purification.

4. Be comfortable around firearms. Learn to shoot and clean a gun.

5. Get a good first aid kit and learn to use it.

6. Find 5 people within 100 miles that you trust with your life and stay in contact with them.

7. Get a copy of the US Constitution and read it.

8. Eat less.

9. Get a bicycle and two sets of spare tires. Ride it 10 miles a week.

10. Consider what you would bring with you if you had to leave your home in 10 min. and never return.

And get ready for the great war of 2005! :p

k tbh pffffft @ the 1st three on your list way to kill the joy from life, but i agree with the rest, except the eating less, riding 10 miles a week and reading the constitution, oh and the 5 people in 100 miles, there isnt 5 people anywhere that i would trust, but aside from that yup good philosophy :D

This took off well whilst I was banned... hmm, my personal thoughts on time travel:

According to Einstein, if something could travel at the speed of light time would stop for it. So we can assume you can travel through time, back or forward perhaps - or that you would cease to age, thus travelling forward in time... (physics isn't my strong point) basically though it's impossible to travel at the speed of light because you will achieve infinite mass (again according to Einstein I think) however... if you were to burn anti-matter, perhaps you could...? Of course, anti-matter is rather dangerous and expensive :(

Question:

The clock was set 30 years back AUTOMATICLY each time it went through the Vortex???

Then why the hell didn't it turn 30 years FORWARD (which would give our current time), when pulled back through the vortex?

Exactly what I was thinking. If the object sent back was affected by time during it's journey to the past it would also logically be affected by time on it's journey forward. If the clock on the weather balloon was affected by time as it travelled through it you must consider the other factors... did the weather baloon clock and rope exist 30 years ago? If they didn't (which seems likely) then would the same time process causing the clock to go backwards have 'unmade' the items? In which case it would have had to recreate them at the correct time period while pulling the now non existant rope back through the hole?

Using Einstein there is nothing to say you can travel backwards in time. He may state that your as your velocity increased towards the speed of light time slows down, testing using high velocities and atomic clocks does show that this appears to be the case, however this means that if you were to hit the speed of light you could not exceed it, as you would have no time to accelerate further. Velocity is after all distance/time. If travelling at the speed of light and reducing the value of 'time' to 0... you're gonna bump into some interesting problems. :eek7:

Which I'm not even going to try to think about. :puke:

If time stops for you, surely you can move around in time...?
