I think Goldman Sachs did something in response to this when it came out, like a no cocaine wednesday or something.
You got a thing about drugs. A lot of things you retort has something implied

There's a group of us 'senior engineers' where I work where a lot of our default responses to each other is simply this:

It answers everything that needs to be answered. It's simpler than saying "You'd fucking think so, wouldn't you?"

You ask about mary jane when anyone says they got biitcoin, thats what came to mind.

Because Raven was talking about using it but not really being interested in it and as he has said before that he is a cannabis user I was asking if that was what he had used it for in the past as I have done the same.

Is that okay with you?

Any posts about drugs have always been relevant to the subject matter.

All your posts are to divert from the subject matter

I have always found it puzzling that so many would argue that the problem lies merely in Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. But the facts are there for all those who want to see them. Israel’s political and legal system is fundamentally unequal.

this is shit. People planning to cancel on uk holidays that they have booked.

so selfish.

just book a uk holiday and enjoy it. Dont fuck someone over who has limited opportunity to make the money they thought they were going to get when you cancel at the last minute and swan off to a beach in the sun. Or pay for both and chose which you go on.

It's the same clownery that people do with restaurants. 4-5 bookings at the same time, then pick one to go to, leaving the other restaurants with empty tables.

Not if you signed a waiver.

You are free to leave if you don't like it. I regularly worked 80+ hours when I worked at the big banks. If I didn't, they would tell me to seek other employment and get someone else in. I was going to leave, but we then had a change in manager who agreed that it was BS, but wasn't much we could do. The work was the work, and it had to be done if we wanted to keep our jobs. We put in an informal "time off in lieu policy", where you could accrue a half day or full day for working overnight or during the weekend.
I had 22 days holidays a year, which was pretty decent by US standards. In my last full year there, I had 53 days off, and rolled a bunch of days too.

A friend in a different department had a manager that only allowed a max of 10 days of time off in lieu a year, and any accrued time had to be taken in the 2 weeks after it was earned. By mid summer, his entire team had hit their 10 days, and were stuck working for free for the remainder of the year. Turnover in that team was over 60% a year. Turnover in my team was less than 10%. The money they paid was crazy good, but you had to available 24/7. It was a rite of passage until you moved onto a role that paid more for less hours.

Think I had to when that law came in.
Illegal.

So, you support corporations ignoring laws that are supposed to benefit the whole population and protect them from corporate abuse?

Illegal behaviour. If I was an employee I'd sue.

Of course @SilverHood - this is in Europe / UK. The US gets shit all over and has shocking employee protections.

About time.. going forward I'd imagine they'll continue doing it. People often argue "All they care about is money" where that is true, I'd rather cater to the PC gamer base than miners because miners could literally disappear in the course of a few days if a market crash happened whereas gamers are around forever.

Well i could have refused. But it wouldnt have done my standing much good.

and tbh the times i have worked over 36 hours in a week could be counted on a quadruple amputees appendages.

usa are shit like that. But work for PwC and similar and you have the pound of flesh taken. Depends how much you value the dollar

Yeah, not saying I agree, but here in America, if you are what is called an "exempt professional employee", then you are SOL when it comes to overtime and hours. Don't like it, go get a job that isn't exempt. Of course, taking a 50-70% paycut is not entirely appetizing either. A government job is a somewhat attractive middle ground, if you can get it.

My personal opinion was, I could use the money and the experience was very good. Did it until it became too much.... and then I transitioned to a relatively sleepy job, where the worst day ever is still better than an average day in my old job. Maybe one day I'll move back to Europe, and be one of those "It's 5PM, where is everyone" people.

It is not illegal in the UK to ask an employee to opt out of the working time directive. Many companies have it as part of their standard contacts where you have a box to tick or leave unticked. In most instances I have found that it is very rare for any employees to work consistently more than 48 hours per week every week for months on end...(rules are average of 48 hours over a period of 4 weeks or 50 hours over a calendar month).

it is very very well known that working in investment banks consists of excessively long days however friends and family who have gone down that route were made very aware of this at the interview and normally compensation is considerably above average eg on leaving uni if you work in investment banking in Sweden starting salary is c.5k GBP per month. The investment company just need to ensure that over the course of a year hours worked is less than 200 hours per year and less than 50 hours per any one calendar month outside of that if you sign a contract with them and the lure of money is greater than lure of good balance then you need to either reconcile yourself with that or leave.

Some employees choose to work longer hours in spite of managers asking them not to, this has become much more difficult to monitor and control during CV19.... A good manager will discuss hours regularly with their employees and ensure that during times of high workload employees have the flexibility they need to get rest, see their families etc etc

Is it me or is this the biggest bullshit going?

I just saw a story where a daughter wanted to take over from her dad, and the BBC said this is exactly what the grant is for, so daddy gets £100k to give it up and to the daughter carries on?

On the other hand, it is a fact that farming is a lifestyle, it's not just a 9 to 5 job, it's not something you can just retire from for all sorts of reasons. Young people aren't willing to stick around being what is essentially a farm hand for 40 odd years waiting for pops to die.

Edit, also farming desperately needs to modernise and yoots are the best people to do that.
