Really interested to see what the court says on this one, as I can see both sides of the argument. I expect it to become class action at some point. Some of the stories, like Alix Pophams, are really tragic.
If we swapped out rugby for boxing, I imagine most people would be pissing themselves laughing at the notion of this.

I don't see this gaining any traction, rugby is an extremely physical sport and that's a known quantity going in.

We live in an interesting world where people can issue legal proceedings for what seem to me like regrets about historic life choices.

Because class actions are not allowed in the UK

Yeah but said before that doesn't matter as it would likely be brought against WR who are based in Ireland, not the UK. Can you do a Class Action in Ireland?

The argument in court will be that WR and the RFUs have a duty of care to the their players, and should be checking players heads more regularly etc. HIAs were only introduced a few years back, which seems crazy when you watch how hard these boys hit each other these days. Rugby is SO different to what it was 20-30 years ago. The players are bigger (the backs are the size of the props in the 70s and 80s), faster, stronger, and are hitting each more regularly - I believe the average rugby match has twice as many tackles now as it did in the 70s. There is an argument imo that WR/the RFUs should have taken this into consideration when looking at player welfare.

I'll be following how this pans out closely, it could result in huge changes to the sport, whether the claimants win or lose.

And they should.

This isn't amateur sport. This is professional, money-making, business. Therefore the Health & Safety regulations quite correctly apply.

The most powerful mechanism to ensure that gets followed is litigation threat. It's distasteful - but saves lives.

If there's one thing we know - if the money men aren't held to account then they'll burn up human lives for profit.

Rugby wasnt professional until 1995 and the money is nothing like football.
how can you sue for a problem that wasn’t known at the time by anyone?
duty of care yes if its a known issue.

like i said they can push for better practices going forward. But past damage which wasnt studied or known. do they want to sue for cosmetic surgery for cauliflower ears too?

I think the players will win. They did in the States when the NFL players sued over CTE, and I don't see this as being much different.

Head injury issues have been known about from decades.

Does rugby have a programme to mitigate the risks? A real programme, not just lip service?

You mean other than the completely different legal systems?

Not a rugby expert i have no idea about programmes. they definitely have policies regarding concussions and such. I guess time will tell if they win their court case.

You can't do class action lawsuits in the UK.

This isn't really a class action, its Group Litigation. You have to get permission to bring a GLO before you start a case, but this would seem to fit the bill for a suit.

They have HIAs new but they're a relatively new addition to the game. Should have been introduced years ago.

I would say 'stay classy, Poundland'

But what would be the point.
First comment made me laugh:

"'Everyone in the shop thought I had no money'.

You're shopping in Poundland. People aren't exactly looking at you like you're Jeff Bezos."

My new electric toothbrush arrived today
Bloody hell, I just wanted to replace the knackered one I have. Since then technology has moved on a tad.

This one's got its own app (for the love of god, why? lol), a USB charger, a regular charger, a travel pouch. a suction phone mount, a brush head container, spare tootbrush heads (that look like they'd be good to shift a stubborn jobby should the toilet brush break), another phone mount when connected to the laptop...and a Smart Ring (?) which I've yet to locate...

I remember when I had my first electric toothbrush just before I had braces, probably over 10 years ago.

It was expensive (Like £200? and sounded like an electric drill.

I replaced it with this

He'd only get it all over his tie and in his hair anyway.
