Reading a fascinating book about the Chindits and Gurkhas in Burma in WW2 from the point of an Australian RAF officer. God those guys were tough. Some of the things the Gurkhas did would make any modern special forces guy look like pussy cats. With the poor rations, gruelling marches, and oppressive humidity the survivors lost on average 3+ stones (20 kg) in the jungles.
