1) they're getting fucked over.
2) the fact that others were fucked over shouldn't make you glad that they're getting fucked over too.
3) yes, you could have gone on strike. But the brits are spineless wankers who moan at, for example, the french when they go on strike. Brits are suckers who take it in the ass - as long as everyone else is taking it in the ass too.
4) Academics live in the same world as everyone else. Their jobs may involve no gain to society - or conversely bring about society-changing gain. That's the nature of the beast. Most people's jobs do fuck all either way really.

A bit of fucking solidarity with other workers is the order of the day, rather than outright jealousy.

The markets havent performed well enough t sustain the outlay needed and there are less workers to put in to keep the pots growing.

I started saying that in the world we live in there isnt the money available to keep the pensions that are there in the uni world without change.
