Had an enormous scare this morning - was driving down the M6 Toll at 4:30am to make the early morning flight to Amsterdam, doing late for flight on the Toll Road speeds, when The Beast randomly decided to try and shake itself to bits. Massive vibrations through the seat, rear view mirror was a blur, and a horrible thrumming noise from the back. Luckily I was in Lane 1 anyway, so slowed down and pulled onto the hard shoulder and had a look. Driver's rear wheel was scorching to the touch, with steam coming off the rear brake disk. Clearly a stuck caliper / brake, but really would have rathered it didn't happen at quite such high speed.....

AA couldn'te get me to the airport on time so missed my flight, had to do the customer meeting remotely. Went pretty well, although I think I now owe the account manager a bottle for going by herself. Mind you, at this point I'm happy to just be here, as that could have been proper nasty

You can live with a woman and have freedom. Compromise is possible - but you have to agree to it up-front and stick to it.

Lots of men give up over time IMO. It's just "easier" for them - but they become miserable and neutered and their girlfriend notices that, and likes them less for it...

If I ever have to do it over again and choose to live with another woman then I'm going to do it agreeing terms up-front and never, ever, compromising that agreement. Or indeed discussing it ever again. But first and foremost it'd be with a woman who already loves doing what I love to do - so there'd be no conflict there...

I do whatever I like in my spare time. My wife is quite happy for me to because she knows that I will also do stuff with her but for me to be happy I need space too. She isn't particularly outdoorsy, which is fine by me, I prefer to get away on my own for a few nights every so often. Most Sundays I don't see her out of bed until 12ish, at which point I have been up for at least 6 hours...I only sleep for 5 hours or so a night, she does a solid 12-15 at weekends.

A women that expects you to change should be fucked off at the first given opportunity, either they want you for what you are or they want you to be something you are not, usually their dad or some fucked up shit.

I am also extremely grateful to have found a bird that allows me that freedom too and not meant to be a 2 sheds thing

This is where I think I went wrong, I just sucked up the bad stuff thinking "well, all relationships are hard work, so i'll just live with it", but it increasingly wore me down into the ground. It's only now that the dust has settled on the breakup that I can see how much effort I put into it and got next to nothing back. We have this nice big house together and she treated it like a student bedsit - clothes everywhere, place a mess, housework not done unless I did it, just a fucking midden. It was never priority for her to meet me half way and work as a joint team to get the housework done on a weekend - her pals and interests came first. I got sick of it and tried to fight my corner, but it never changed.

My ex wife was convinced we'd still be together if we'd simply lived in separate houses. She was wrong, but she sincerely held the belief.

My mum and step dad spent about 5 year married, living apart. He was a teacher at some posh school so lived nearby and she lived in the family house, it was only when he retired that he moved in with her. They have been together for about 25 years but married for 10.
