Oh, they are stopping the Yellow pages. Will save someone the time of walking it up my garden path just to watch me pick it up and walking it 5 metres to the recycling bin I suppose.

Only about ten years overdue.

Honestly, its this sort of thing people need to be outraged about

Mother finds no body in her baby's coffin - BBC News

Not that someone was called fat or some ohter actually meaningless shit.
On a somewhat related note; a friend of mine who I graduated with and is now my colleague, gave birth way too prematurely to a 555gram baby on Tuesday. Today we got the message that their baby girl didn't survive the night. The parents are only 25 ffs :(

Even as a non-parent and someone that does not want children, I cannot imagine how hard it is to lose a child, regardless of number of days live.

I don't want to panic anyone, but i'm posting this from Intensive Care. Apparently the Dyson Ball Cleaner isn't meant to be used for what I thought.

What the fuck are you on about now? Just about every single post you make proves what a racist, homophobic gobshite you are.

Edit: Also, good on John Lewis. Let kids make up their own minds what they want to wear, what they want to be. I honestly believe that there would be significantly fewer teens and adults with mental health issues if we gave kids more freedom to define themselves, instead of pressing stereotypes onto them.

Speaking of which...

No More Boys and Girls: Can Our Kids Go Gender Free? - Series 1: Episode 1

Interesting, although the guy seems to be a bit militant about it. I think these kind of documentaries really make a reality of the 'gender' issue - showing clear benefits or disadvantages in later life.

Although that being said, I went to a 99% Muslim primary school to do a year of volunteering, I found the girls really didn't see 'men making the money' attitude, at the same age of the kids in this documentary, they very much expected to continue with education and get a job out of it.

I would say its 50% free advertising and 50% minority focus groups warning corporations if they dont stay ahead of the PC curve it could cost them money.
I dont doubt we could deconstruct our culture, but it has to happen naturally, not forced by minority opinions.
It would seem to me this is just one step in our urge to own our destiny as a species, first remove pesky gender differences, then challenge ageing, followed by mortality.
Gender neutral eternal consciousness.

For anyone perusing the internet for a transexual escort, don't be fooled by the tits and make-up. They may call themselves a girl, but they're not.

If you've got a willy you're a man.

Its a load of bullshit PR though. John Lewis makes huge amounts of money out of school-specific uniforms; they'll still have male and female specific versions and JL will just pass the buck and blame the schools.

As for labelling in store, parents make the purchasing decisions, and if it wastes their time by making it harder to find what they want they'll vote with their feet and go elsewhere. For 90% of parents it will make no difference to the type of clothes they buy for their kids. By the time kids are old enough to make purchasing decisions themselves the sizing is male/female anyway.

@DaGaffer as a father of daughters (I believe?) your opinion on the above would be most insightful.

I have a boy and a girl. Frankly boys have a much harder time than girls socially and academically in most schools in the west. I've no idea whether gender neutrality would help with that or make it worse, but the blurb from that show seems to indicate this is more about helping girls later in life, and in that regard I'd be hugely sceptical. So long as women are the ones who have babies being taught in a gender-neutral class is going to make fuck-all difference; enforced paternity leave would have far more effect and its been proven.

Gender stereotyping as in 'little princess' for the girls is an issue obviously, but only in the minds of people abstractly looking at it.
90% of people are fine at girls and boys accepting these roles and reinforcing them, you could turn the spotlight of cultural bias on anything, but pretty girls and tough boys is deply entrenched in our sexual genetic makeup.
It doesn't mean we cant see outside the box, just people like the box to still be there.

Got a Yellow Pages under the stairs. It's only got a couple hundred pages in it now. If that. The proper ones were so thick, the only way to rip them in half was to first eat a Yorkie.

Gone also are the phone directory books. Several volumes. Used to have fun as a kid with them

"Hello Mrs Bird? Your husbands just laid an egg"
