The key is in the word Union. You know, the concept where member countries provide support and assistance to one another, for the greater good of the Union. Utopic, right? Fuck me, right?

Playing devils advocate slightly...But what if people aren't interesting in propping up former soviet and or communist countries? From a cold hearted mechanical perspective, what do they get in return? Cheap labour? Hardly for the greater good, it just lines the pockets of the rich more.

Well I guess ideally if the money went into improving the standard of living in those countries, and it improved sufficiently, then people would be happy living there and they wouldn't want to move here. Then we wouldn't have to spend the money on trying to keep them out instead.

I'm sure it hasn't been working like that though.

Well stability equals power and that is the EU's goal, how the living fuck we got from the original mission, to starting to build an EU army , is anyone's guess...oh yeah..power corrupts..etc.
A fricking trading block we joined and step by step, with every objector called a racist, we are now at the tipping point of total integration of defence, laws and an EU flag with theme tune.
And you can't shout me down as a tin hatter brexiter anymore, because as warned by all, they do want an EU army, probably more than ever now, and what an utter, total fuck up it will be.

The idea is to improve the infrastructure in poorer countries. Motorways, docks, rail connections, airports, etc. Give them a helping hand to get started, then they can build themselves up more quickly and trade with us. It isn't about immigration at all, never mind that immigration is a good thing and boosts our economy.

I'm pretty sure we have a thread for this, but it worked perfectly when it was a trading block, it's the ever closer union nonsense that's caused the issues. Forcing disparate economies like Spain and Greece to use the same currency as a powerhouse like Germany was always going to end in tears.

And the UK was unaffected by that. And was never going to be. But, free movement of labour has been there from day one, as was the objective of expanding the EU (given when the UK joined, of course it was), and so was "ever closer union"; the phrase was first used in 1958!

Problem with Britain is they pressed "agree" to the licence agreement without reading it.

Yes but there are more possible connections in the brain than there are atoms in the known universe.

So you're essentially attempting to taking the high ground because someone was correct about the bleeding obvious?

Go you!
