It was probably always going to be the battery. A phone catching fire is usually a battery/charging issue and at the time reports suggested that it looked like they'd tried to compact the battery too much causing internal instability. You were probably stating it as fact though and, as far as I know, you don't work for Samsung or have access to their investigation 3 months before the report was complete.
