I'm afraid your comment shows what a myopic bellend you are. If you think that riding along at your "speedy" 25mph, while cars are going past you at 60mph inches away from you is safe, then you deserve everything you get.

Really, I deserve to die because I choose to ride on roads you don't like? I have news for you, 90% of my riding is on NSL single carriageway roads and despite doing between 5-10,000 miles a year, I'm still here.

If you don't believe me, look at this map. Look at where the collisions occur:

And by the way, I'm long-sighted, not short-sighted.

...it remains the case in the UK that collisions and casualties are much higher than they should be, because of the lack of good cycling infrastructure and legal provisions to protect those who cycle.
It's always someone else's fault!

I love a bit of bushcraft, I met Ray Mears in Edinburgh last month at a book signing.

Edit: Jesus, those packs must be fucking heavy - I've got as much lightweight stuff as possible and it can be tough on the legs when you're going up mountains (unless these two are doing stuff that's entirely flat).

It only takes one accident at high speed to die, why risk your life when you have no reason not to?
Any numbers of slow prangs in the city. But 20mph demi god vs two tonnes of steel. No chance.

I really dont get it. If theres a way to not put your life in someone elses hands why not take it

Who cares how your sight is. One incident on a nsl road is curtains.

You take that gamble. Not me

An amazing set of videos which I have consumed today where a guy makes a skeleton clock from scratch. When I say from scratch, he makes every component, including screws and washers. Absolutely captivating from start to finish, probably about 4 hours worth of videos.

Part 1 of 21 (he's still making them but has finished the mechanism in the last part):

Been watching these from the start of last year when they first appeared, someone put a gif on Imgur and a link. There are loads of interim vids with him making tools so he can make the clock

Yeah I love it when he introduces a tool for the first time and he says "if you want to know how I made this tool, click the link". Of course he made the tools as well. Like the little right angle screwdriver, or the special little clamps, or the custom lathe attachments or those discs he uses to file/polish the bits. What I wouldn't give to have that sort of skill and patience.

When you're like GRRR HAD TO WAIT HALF A HOUR TO SEE MY GP

The real cost of giving birth: '$40 to hold my newborn baby' - BBC News

'Murica. I don't even bother trying to argue about this stuff with Americans anymore; most of them flat out refuse to believe there's any other way to have medical care; its like; America=Medicine, Everywhere else=leeches and witchcraft. And they usually refuse to believe that doctors make shit up to pad the bills (like the entire circumcision scam for example).

The hospitals must specify this by law or face lawsuits, the cost $39.35 is the same as 1 "unit" of "Delivery C section" (the line above). I agree that the cost of healthcare in the US is fucked up, but this isn't anything spectacular. The rest of the world is just not used to see hospital bills specified.

Remember, there's always someone paying the bill, no hospital works for free. but if everyone pays through taxes the country would be better off IMO.

But what about the healthy who never falls ill!??!? Should they pay for the weak? Where is the fairness in that???

That's a slightly cart before the horse way of looking at it. Yes they have to itemise, but only because they sell each thing as a separate item. It would be perfectly possible to bundle items into a flat fee (and the OBGYN charges are done that way) and that's the way it was done in the US 20 years ago. The simple fact is that American women are charged FAR more then anyone else on the planet, but the costs of their care aren't actually much different to the costs accrued in Europe or elsewhere. They will be recommended things like weekly scans (which are totally unnecessary) and all kinds of other crap as "standard". And because of the unique way things are done in the US, they actually end up with worse infant mortality rates (because of all the women with no insurance) than women in Europe etc. despite the overall spend per baby being massively higher than everywhere else on the planet.

Really good NYT article about it here.

And then you get on to maternity leave...
