The UK is massively behind in internet speeds. You can thank the BT monopoly for that.
Actually you can thank the monopoly commissions for that. I totally understand why BT will not roll out £1b worth of fiber across the UK only to be told they have to let Sky sell it for half the price they charge. Why would a companies shareholders agree to spend all of that only to see other companies sell it with a fraction of the investment. The people running the the infrastructure should be a public company that every ISP has to pay to rent bandwidth. They way it is now we will never catch up.

A monopoly would be bad. And I know BT got some EU money for setting up our infrastructure but I am fairly sure one report I read said that to get 200MB fibre to every home (or over the 90 something %) would cost Open Reach over £1b with no grantee that end users pay them for it. Only that that someone can resell it which makes them much less money.

MEGA NSFW Warning here

basically awhile ago there was a video of a guy beating up a dog, punching it in the head, kicking it etc, he recorded the video because he thought it was funny, he then put the video online. Someone tracked him down and did the same to him, recorded it and stuck it online, this is the video - VERY GRAPHIC and extremely NSFW/Young audiences.

This is utterly mental, he deserved a kicking for what he did but this is just mad.

Maintenance, that London has an over stretched sewer system, that they would likely have to pay Thames Water rent... No, no reasons not to...

Someone did track him down and beat the living shit out of him. I'm just shocked there's a video about it.

I find myself with Job on this one. A police car is a police car is a police car. They look the way they do for a reason, and officers wear the uniforms they wear for the same reason. Putting pretty blinking lights on a car does not a gay friendly car make. Ofc, if it was an MX-5 hairdresser car like old @Summo used to drive before he went off all proper like, that would be a whole different story...

Surely it's pretty cost effective to do it in a lot of London?
I wonder if a lot of London is held back because of small businesses. We have customers who have spent tens of thousands of pounds on EFM lines. If they rolled out 200mb Fiber across the whole of London you will get the price dragged down as everyone cuts each others throats to get the customers. These SMB's would not pay for a business class line when 200mb / 100mb Fiber exists for £30 a month.

The first competition for British Telecom as it was then was Mercury..they set up equipment in the exchanges..built a wall around it and put a lock on the door in case any BT engineers sabotaged it..the problem is the legacy network but also entrenched old school dinosaurs who couldnt understand why people needed more than dialup...when we were fitting the first adsl lots of the management thought it was a flash in the pan and they still soldiered on with the 21st century network as they called it..they still planned to keep the mf dialling from the sixties (which we still use..bubeepbeepbu).

BT is not unique in this. Pretty much every former State Telco has similar horror stories; I spent two years at eircom and the engineers were scary dinosaurs (average age 55...) I've heard similar stories from the likes of KPN (I went to a telco conference in Amsterdam in the late 90s and they were booing presenters who said PSTN networks were dead). Funniest was a conference called Milia that I used to go to in Cannes. One year all of the ISP stands suddenly lost connectivity on their stands except one, France Telecom. Fucking FT engineers ran the network in the Palais Des Festivals (it's a huge conference centre) and they cut everyone else off, shrugged their shoulders and fucked off for Gitanes and a long lunch.
