I don't understand how anyone could argue that a console would be technically better than a PC - a PC is still by far the best setup in terms of sheer quality (forgetting price).

I agree with you that a PC is always technically better.

But for me both have the pluses and minuses. After sitting at a desk all day a work I hated sitting at a desk to play a game so I sold my gaming rig and went pure console. Which was not bad but some games were terrible on a console (or I was terrible at them?). So now I play games like Tomb Raider on an Alienware Laptop which suits me so much better and I play games like Fifa on the console. I would not really like to be without either but Tomb Raider looked so much better on the Laptop but I still got Watch Dogs on the PS4 and it looks great and the play is not bad in all honesty. I am happily an inbetweener in this war.

Why not just buy a controller for your PC and plug it into yer telly m8? It's what I've done.

Laptop on knee. Mouse on settee. Kempston Joystick USB converter incoming next week so hopefully I'll be able to play all the l33t MAME-emulated games of the 1980's and just piss my superior computing power up the wall

The honest answer to that is I like the TV on in the background when gaming. It is why I always got shouted at in DAOC RVR. Sasha Alexander in NCIS was always more interesting than some random Kobold killing everyone

Its very easy to roll out fibre in a tight geography like HK or Singapore. Not so simple when you have rural areas to consider. The UK ranks 20th in the world, but look at a lot of the countries above the UK and they're tiny places (HK, Singapore, Luxembourg, Andorra, Macau) or they had barely any legacy to deal with and have jumped straight to fibre (Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia etc.) The "BT Monopoly" has very little to do with it (there are monopolistic countries above and below UK in the rankings), and one of things that missed about the UK when people moan about broadband is that its incredibly cheap in the UK, about 73% of EU average price per meg of speed and and less than half the global average. Maybe its a case of "you get what you pay for..."
