Because most of them are under repair. American infrastructure is falling to bits, and has been for a while, but taxes are for communists, so decent roads come a distant second to a fleet of shiny new drones or a new aircraft carrier.

I think shitty, unregulated construction is to blame. If you build a big building with crap materials and bad design then it is bound to come down at some point. The owner is also to blame for forcing people to work when the cracks were discovered, the staff are partly to blame for not telling him to go and fuck himself.
