And I have no idea why you're associating the Opium Wars with any of this since it had nothing to do with either racism or slavery.

Because it does contribute to why slavery was ended; Asia was more profitable than slavery.

Also, it's relevant because as you say, whilst the Bible is contradictory on pretty much every topic, people saw it as morally bad to engage in slavery, but it wasn't a bad thing to do get lots of people hooked on drugs, why? Because the bible condemns one but barely mentions the other.

That's why religious morality and morality are two different things as far as I'm concerned.

There was a decades-long gap between the Opium Wars and the end of slavery, and since when would opium sales v. slaves be an either/or proposition instead of both anyway?

There was an economic element to ending slavery, but its not what you think it was; the British government could afford to pay off slave owners for the loss of their "property" because the value of Caribbean slaves had dropped so the price was "affordable" (but still accounted for 40% of the Treasury's budget when they did it, and the government had to borrow heavily to fund it), and the reason their value had dropped was a drop in the price of sugar, so the slave owners had been happy to get rid of an "asset" that was increasingly seen as socially unacceptable. Its also why Britain couldn't recognise the Confederacy during the American Civil War; supporting a slave state was electoral poison, and Palmerston knew it.

As for Opium, once again there's two sides to every story; the British only got into the opium business in the first place because the Chinese government would only accept payment for tea in silver, and the EIC didn't have any (Britain was a gold economy) so they ended up selling opium to Chinese smugglers in exchange for silver, which they then used to buy tea, and the Chinese authorities happily took their rake off from the EIC and the smugglers for over 40 years before they suddenly got an attack of the moral high grounds; the Chinese were willing partners in the creation of opium smuggling.

Well they did scrape most of them from the net so they're all ready out there.

I just dont know where the limit is...how much do they need, give it another twenty years and every single persons entire identity will be available for free, how the fuck are we going to be able to prove who we are?

All your money will be online and anyone with a smartphone will be able to pretend they are you.
Its fucking terrifying.

Facial recognition service hacked, 3 billion photos stolen, response from the company?

Or "Shit's gonna happen".

In that case, your service and all services like it should be shut down.

Unfortunately, these companies collect data without the permission of the users. Same as the Experian hack last year. We have no say in the data they have on us, and if they get hacked, that's too bad.

Hes even worse than me at writing..basically just word and pointless fact assault to hide the fact that socialism is an ideology forced on those that dont want it and not followed by those who do.

We need to perfect capitalism, not replace it with a flawed technology.

I think we need to be more specific about socialism, as you could define Scandinavian countries, Venezuela, the USSR, the UK and many others as 'socialist'.

Problem is that in the US election enough money will be put behind the anti Bernie camp to make his definition of socialism as communism which is the furthest thing from the truth.

Hes got a gameover history of Citizen Smith level commie meetings/communication and gaffs to keep the Repubs cruising.

Everything will stick...he will be destroyed.

At the outset you might think "oh he's just putting together a kit model, big whoop", but it's so much more than that.

If you are 60+, or have an underlying condition like cardiovascular disease, a respiratory condition or diabetes, you have a higher risk of developing severe #COVID19. Try to avoid crowded areas, or places where you might interact with people who are sick.

This could save the NHS a fortune!

#covidparty!
