Not to be pedantic but "traps" can also refer to a group of transexuals.

So I'm told.

Mmmm the other way to look at this is that its inspections doing their job and food prodicers trying dirty (illegal) tricks to pull one over the public

And these are companies the UK wants to trust to stick to high standards in a less regulated market post brexit...

well, except it was known about ages ago but our friends in the EU kept stum :)

No. It was believed none of the eggs had reached here at the time.

But the point @Ormorof made was the correct one. The EU and the UK have higher standards than the US (at the moment). For all you know it's perfectly legal in the US and wouldn't even have been flagged.

Your hatred of the EU blinds you to the good it does - higher food standards than the US doesn't mean "nothing goes wrong" - but it still means better than the US.

Yes, and it was kept quiet for weeks.

It doesn't matter whether the eggs made it here or not, it is a complete failure within the EU because, shock horror, nobody follows regulation within the EU, there is a reason there is constant contamination going on.

Thankfully we are relatively safe here because domestic production has such a higher standard. Just the cheap shit EU imports we should worry about.

A constant stream of utterly insignificant 'issues', are being peddled out by the clickbait media...which is all media these days.

Luckily we are trying to clean up and trace their mess now we know about it.
Looks like everyone is - including other EU members.

This isn't a "failure of the EU" - this is a failure of Belgium :)

The EU has mechanisms in place - but Belgium failed to use them in a timely fashion.

On the plus side - after reading your links it turns out that these eggs'll most likely go into pre-packaged and pre-processed food for the cheap end of the market. So it's going to hit the poor (which is my objection to any US-standards-lowering trade-deals).

It's also vindication of my long-held principle of only ever buying fresh organic produce where possible - on the basis that I want to reduce my pesticide intake. (And science be damned @Tom - I still think it tastes better!).

Cooking your own stuff, from fresh, from the best organic produce means that you eat good wholesome food at a standard that reduces your chances of ever having "bad things" happen 'cause of what you eat...

Yes we end up dead but, bar lucky exceptions, people who don't look after themselves die younger and end up with painful bodies that fail them and restrict what they can do. What "fun" eh?

I'll take the hit on screen size and get the normal one, not the stupid edge shit.

What does 'wholesome' mean?

What does 'wholesome' mean?
In this usage it's literally the dictionary definition: "conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being" as in "the food is plentiful and very wholesome"

Containing amongst it's calorific value, enough variety of vitamins, minerals, oils, fats, proteins, roughage and unprocessed carbohydrates to give the body what it needs without it having to strain metabolically to produce what's lacking or go without, making you malnourished. On top of that in this case it also means without proven harmful-to-humans chemical content.

Now please, with your McDonald's ridden mind, explain to us how the above is all bullshit

Not really. Good food and exercise is universal. We're all human.

I goto romania. There are no alcohol guidelines there and no five a day.

From what i remember japan has ten a day

Its just what the government of the country think they can get away with as to how far they push and what messages they use.

conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being

So it means it sounds like its good for you.

You're twist on how wholesome actually translates into physical properties is of course biased by hippy science.

I dunno, if it was a choice between 70 years as Hunter S Thompson, or 100 years living a wholesome life, I'd go with Hunter every day of the week.

False choice is false.

But hey, eat shit, feel like shit after eating shit, have a creaky body, cough from your fags and be aware that, though you may live like hunter s thompson* the odds are that you'll be incontinent and immobile.

It's not about living longer. It's about having a body (and mind) still capable of doing the things you can do when you're 55 at 75 instead of shuffling around town with a zimmer frame desparately hoping that the next place you can sit isn't far away. And has a toilet

If shit cheap burgers and immitation-cheese pizzas and sitting on your arse watching sport are worth that to you then knock yourself out.

I've eaten that shit and been that fat cunt. I was wrong. But hey ho. Each to their own.

Phone's acting up. Shitty Sony. :)

Anyway - it's not about what "government" says. Who gives a fuck what the "guidelines" are. If you get to our age and you need to be told what "good wholesome food" is and are struggling to eat it then you're pretty fucked up my friend.

Im not saying i dont know. And you know that. I am saying that its based on knowledge we have at the moment. Ten years ago it was all dont eat fats, fats are bad. Now its well fats arent quite the devil we made them out to be but kill sugar.

So you eat what you want as i originally said and you can die happy.

The whole fats thing is a bit of a joke and generally media driven science should be taken with a pinch of salt. Eat everything in moderation.

But not the worst possible cuts of meat, put through a grinder and covered in breadcrumbs, we used to feed that crap to dogs, not eat it, if you buy box meals or those grotty chicken portion things, you are literally eating rubbish. But fine, if you don't mind a miserable old age where your body lets you down before your brain, then go for it.

I don't really understand it though, they taste like the box, why not spend 10 minutes longer preparing your dinner and have something that actually tastes like food and is good for you?

People oversestimate how many minerals, nutrients/vitamins the body needs.
Dogs do just fine on offal shite processed gloop.
We don't need constant topping up and only a serious defiency in any of them would result in an actual negative physical consequence.
Western diet is choc full of nutrients, you would have to live soley on mars bars and coke to have an issue.

Im not saying what you eat is bad, or what i eat is bad or good, im saying that you preach like yours is the perfect way and everyone who doesnt follow you is stupid.

Where as there are different ways of eating and quite a few are good and some are bad.

As long as you like what you are eating let it be and not belittle others.

I eat veg not really fruit. I and my wife cook from scratch most of the time but have guilty pleasures occassionally
