Not offended but didn't find it anything other than mildly amusing and rather pointless.

Managed to offend the pain in the arse missus on our Wednesday night ride by mentioning that we had a chinky for dinner last night tho :(

I'm just back from 'murica. Fourth time there and my opinion of it sinks more every time. I saw Pennsylvania, Delware and spent a day in DC. Pockets of stinking rich and pockets of horrendous poverty. People lying in doorways in Philadelphia, supposed ex-veterans and black people walking between cars in busy city-centre traffic begging for money, people raking bins in DC - some of the doorway-dwellers you couldn't tell if they were dead or alive. It also seems more expensive than ever (not helped by the value of the pound) with junk food being the only thing being cheaply abundant with Wholefoods being an extortionate rip-off. Their infrastructure was a mess - the state of the roads around Philly and Baltimore made our roads looks like that of an advanced alien nation. A quick google reveals that it's a well documented issue. The train to DC was even worse with the most shaky and disruptive ride quality I've experienced on a train ever. The roads around DC were immaculate: big granite kerb stones and nice black-top - no shitty concrete or cheap concrete for their rich white politicians! The gun range was cool, tried a revolver and a Glock 9mm. Since we were staying with friends, I got to see a fair amount of their TV - fucking hell, I thought Sky was bad for content and adverts, American cable is practically an advert show-reel.

TL;DR the UK is awesome, the USA is a declining shite-hole

To be fair, Philly has been a shithole for a very long time. It must be 15 years since I was last there and it was shite even then. Rest of Pennsylvania has much nicer bits though. American trains have been shit for decades as well.

I agree with what you're saying though; the place is generally falling apart. That's what comes of low taxes and a four year election cycle; no capital investment in infrastructure projects.

Yeah a mate of mine who went to Philly mid 2000s said the same. The difference on this visit for me was it was less of a tourism visit so did more day-to-day living (shopping for food, doing a commute, using the highways) rather than the "posh hotel for 4 days, see the tourist only bits".

I've been cramming my head full of blogs since I got back, watched this documentary on it:

A memorable irony was on visiting Independence Hall and the first Supreme Court - the tour guide was 100% 'MURICAN Republican and asked "where you folks from in England" - I quickly corrected him and he screwed his face up followed by "are you guys really gonna separate?". "Perhaps one day" I answered - he snorted back "YOU GUYS ARE GONNA STARVE", quite obviously turning a blind eye to the homeless people camping on the steps across the street.

If only we had some evidence that climate change was real.... oh wait!

The icebarg calving has nothing to do with climate change - it's a natural process that produced pretty much all the Icebergs we see today.

Technically you're right by saying it has nothing to do with Climate Change - Scientists have even said Larsen C couldn't be confirmed due to global warming but Larsen A and B have been confirmed to be global warming, not a huge leap to guess what caused Larsen C's... it just hasn't been officially confirmed.

Must depend on which part of the US you visit, I've been around 10 or 11 times in the last 5 years and still love going there. Sure it has a couple of issues, but no more than any other developed nation I'd say. However there are a few things over there I absolutely love and would have in the UK in a heartbeat:

- Turning right on Red. Best. Idea. Ever.
- Pride in your country not being a dirty word
- The adverts. These can be genius! Especially the Pharma ones - the disclaimers at the end normally last longer than the adverts themselves.
- The fact most of the important states are legalising weed, either for medicinal or recreational use.
- Genuine anger at terrorist incidents, rather than the kum-by-yah shit we get obsessed with over here.
- Vegas. Just all of it.
- Same for California, despite it being full of libtards. Beautiful part of the world.
- How Americans gof rom being incredibly annoying when they are outside of America to incredibly hospitable when you are on their turf.
- Passing on either side on the Freeway
- Practically no speed cameras

And lots more besides.

No, it's been oficially confirmed it is a natural process (as is Climate Change for that matter, but that's a different argument). Larsen C is actually thickening, not what would be expected at all.

Ah, didn't see the confirmation of it. It was still unconfirmed a few days ago.

Don't get me wrong, I had a good time in Vegas, but it's a fucking dump outside of The Strip (which has it's own shitty issues).

Fremont Street is also excellent (the Old Downtown), it's like Kho San Road with some organisation (not much I'll grant you).

They've got some cracking wedding chapels too :)

Some of the "dumpy" bit are quite amusing too - Dad's Bail Bonds anyone?

I went to Vegas for the first time this year and had a great time. Some amazing restaurants, shows and places to visit. I can't wait to go back.

Major caveat: my enjoyment may have been directly proportional to the amount of money I won. If I go back and lose I'm sure to hate the place.

My cat is just back from the vets from his 6 month check up, absolutely high as a kite, they have to sedate him to take his bloods and whatnot. He is trying to climb all over me at the moment.
