indeed. my doc told me to stop doing risky sports after 35. he said everything bad that happens to your body after the age of 35 has twice the impact and takes twice as long to heal up. he was right. :(

Hate to say it, but it's where I'm at: lift.

Muscle mass = less damage.

I just spent five grand on a bike - I should be making sure my body is in good nick for that activity. :(

I have ridden enduros for 30 years, not broken a bone or even twisted an ankle.
So far MTBing I have face planted about 3 times, taken the skin off every joint, slammed me gonads countless times.
I rode across France dirt tracks at up to 70mph, drove over endless 2 foot high obstacles and didn't fall off once.
My point is, MTB's are a 1000 times more dangerous than motorbikes.

From somewhere on the Web:
Patients with injuries from off-road motorcycle riding who were treated in U.S. EDs were more likely to require hospitalization (7.5%) than those injured while bicycling (3.7%).

No it said motorcycle vs regular bicycle. Which makes sense you would have more injuries compared to a pedal bike.
Yeah which is opposite of @Job experience. Tho exceptions break the rule etc etc. I mearly asked about the off road bit. I saw it was peddle vs engine.

Engine = more speed etc so i am happy there are twice the number of hospitalised injuries when you take them off road.

Doesn't mention numbers though, pretty sure when you do total on a motorbike, you are more likely to break something.
The reason for me is because dirt bikes are heavier, they cope much better with terrain, the suspension is far better than even a downhill bike and they practically cannot endover and face plant you.
when things go wrong it happens more slowly and the shape off the seat and the tank, means you can get away with being thrown in the air and landing back safely on the bike.
Watching those top downhillers, I think they would make amazing dirtbikers,

One of colleagues with family in two was just evacuated from Brussels Airport - Two explosions close by. He and family are shaken but OK. Says there were lots of people hurt.
