Unless the pay is less then unemployment pay. I can use that time to do my own projects :p
Yeah, but are you. Or are you actually sat about in your pants getting further and further from a time of paid employment which will eventually make it a harder and harder mental change to get back into work?

Just sat here watching Holby city on bbc1, never watched it before, what an utter pile of purile, dumbed down shite.
Utterly forced, painfully simplistic scenarios and pondering of tacky storylines while patients are dying in front of them.
Jesus fuck,it's like Jeremy Kyle in scrubs.

It's fun to see the rage disappear and the "Oh i f*cked up again didn't i" look enter his face.

Thoguh there seems to be some kind of medical issue as the "oh really?" came out sincere'ish.

You've been working on that for a good long while now. You must be nearing a point where you're going to look for a full development and publishing partner, right?

Or is it the sort of 'project' that exists to alleviate guilt and give you an excuse to not face your fears about fininding alternative work whilst you look to continue in the games industry?

First and foremost employers want to see that you're eager to work. If you're sending applications off with 'doing nothing' as your current occupation they'll most likely be going 'and you won't be coming here either...'

Not being nasty here. Just stating how it often is.

Yeah, f*ck off. With that "not nasty" comment and with all your insinuations about doing f*ck all.

That's the end of it.

Looks like there's a lot of well-meaning people around here who you get massively butthurt by.

How far along is your project then? Still in the planning stages?

I'm not going to entertain some unemployed leech living in his mothers basement, pretending to be a landlord by playing monopoly with his dollies.

By the by, as far as the boardgame is going(for those interested); it's designed, we're reviewing it, need to make some rule changes/balance things before a proto is printed and we get to playtest it. So it's essentially in alpha, no new features to be added.

When you're doing this kind of thing without a team and out of pocket then yeah, it'll take a while :p

When are you going to transfer it into Ap form. Aren't boardgames a thing of the past?

They are very much a niche thing nowadays. It's not going to make sensible amounts of money and even if it does, it won't do so for a few years after going into production (which will be expensive in itself).

If the concept is good enough, the best thing might be to try to sell the idea to a board game producer and let them get on with it.

Around here they sell a fair amount, lots of people going to cabins etc and boardgames are the thing there. Then the "nerdy" folk like their board games as much as ever.

Also people like wil wheaton have been bringing board gaming back in a national sense. It's near the levels it was after PC games really hit off, not the "big thing", but enough to be viable to release one. Costs of making one aren't that bad as you can order them from asian countries.

I'm not doing it to make money though, which ofcourse would be nice, but more because i've wanted to do one and it does add to the CV. Even with minimal sales it could easily make back what it costs to produce, which would be fine. Then again there's the fact that it will probably be funded by someone anyway :p

Freddyshouse Trivial Pursuit, followed by Freddyshouse Pictionary, fuelled by alcohol.

Could you imagine?

I think the term boardgames is misunderstood i doubt Toht is working on a new version of monopoly but more something akin to the civilization board game

And those kind are back big time

Somewhere between talisman and battlestar galactica. Not as simple of a dicethrower as talisman is, but not as complex as some of the game seither. But yeah, not monopoly :p

I am planning a couple of basic card games though(akin to flux etc), they have a suprisingly lot of work involved when you start writing the stuff.
