Is he black?

No he's white as well. He's smashing all sorts of county records for his age group. I'm not sure that means much at this stage though. Depends how much he grows I guess.

Move the decimal point one number to the right and you have my time... on a good day... with the wind in my back... and it's downhill.

I think the only one where I was timed was during a Form Sports Day in Secondary School. I can't remember what was wrong with my mate but he could not even jog but the Idiot PE teacher still told him he had to do the race so six of the eight of us walked it with him. It might have even been over a minute thinking about it.

Where I used to live a family of travelers lived on the same square and they had 4 of these things and took shits the size of Alsatians which of course were never cleaned up which meant you could be playing football and end up standing in a shit that covered your ankle.

They're great dogs, we had one when i was younger. Eat like a horse, sh*t like a horse, need a ton of walkies, but not one bad tempered hair on them. The tail is a b*tch though, basically bone, and at the "right" height to whip you on the sack when they wave it to welcome you home.

They are the size of friggin horses though!!

Yeah, second biggest breed in the world. Only the great dane (or was it the Mastiff?) that are bigger. :)

And despite their size (actually because of it) they are really really suited for small apartments.

No they most certainly do not. Exercising them too much is bad for them because of their size..

To lazy to explain (also can't remember everything dad taught me when he and his new woman bred them when i was little) so i'll just quote a website instead. :)

http://www.irishwolfhounds.org/care.htm

Do not take a puppy under six months for proper walks, even short ones. By all means give it lead training but not by taking it for walks. Once over six months, the puppy may be taken on short walks, starting with a few minutes a day and very gradually increasing to about a mile a day. The pup may also be given some free running other than playing in the garden for a few minutes each day. At nine months, the amount of exercise may be increased to reach two miles a day at a year old, plus some free running. After this age, exercise may be increased to twenty minutes or more free running twice a day by eighteen months, plus two miles walk. However, do not only walk a dog tied to a pram or pushchair and walking at the pace of a toddler or young child because being forced to shorten its steps and walk slowly will damage its skeletal and muscular structure so that it will not be able to stretch out on the move properly when it has finished growing.

However, do not take it that no proper walks means shutting the pup in a pen or cage all the time. Having space for playing and some running about is as important to health as a good diet and plenty of sleep.

An adult hound requires at least 20 minutes free exercise twice daily but some road walking is beneficial as well. No form of exercise should be given for an hour before or two hours after feeding because of the risk of bloat/gastric torsion.

Also, do not exercise your hound in the heat of the day; in warm weather exercise early in the morning and late in the evening when it is cooler. Exercising in heat can cause many problems, including collapse and even death. It is as well to remember that dogs should not be left out with no shade in hot weather and should absolutely never ever be left in a car in warm weather, even if the car is in shade when you leave it. It is not enough to open the windows; a car in sun becomes an oven in minutes and the unfortunate dog left in it literally cooks. This is also something to bear in mind when taking a dog out to drive anywhere in warm weather; the windows of modern cars are so designed that the dog has difficulty in staying out of direct sun. Investing in window shades that will help keep out the sun's rays is sensible, as is having a car with air conditioning, but window shades are not going to make it possible to leave a dog in a car on a sunny day.

Basically it's the perfect dog for lazy ass people that live in tiny apartments. Like me. :)

That's not what that says at all. Up until a certain age don't exercise much (but still allow space for playing and casual running about) but after a certain age, 2 miles a day plus free-running in a garden. A dog of any size is a huge responsibility and, in one post, you've just showed yourself to be completely unsuitable. :(

What you want is called a cat.

Or fish. The time I previously had for my aquarium has gone down quite after we got Max and it really shows. Water changes are less frequent and even feeding has gone down a little. None of the fish are dead, but the glass is green and my anubias has some really long algae threads. Some fish just need a single degree change in the water and they all die, while others are pretty much unkillable

Quite what @caLLous said. Also note that as it says they walk fast due to their size, so for a shorter person that's even more work then with a casual mixbreed.

Saw the London naked bike ride today

Mostly unattractive to see TBH.
At least the weather held out for them.

If you're planning on hiring out a Boris bike soon, take some antibacterial spray for the saddle!

During the melting stage solid matter stops rising in temperature and the strong forces between particles weaken, which allows them to move apart as they rise in levels of kinetic energy. Eventually becoming a liquid which is able to flow.

lol, just because my 20+ year old memory of what my dad taught failed me and i got things mixed up doesn't mean i'm unsuitable as a dog owner. If i actually decided to get a dog (be it an IW or whatever) around that size it certainly wouldn't be decided by what (i think) i know from my childhood. :)

Besides, no breeder would sell me one in the first place without making sure i knew wtf i was doing.

Doesn't seem suitable. There's no day off with a dog, no "i'll do it later", no hangover etc excuses. Much like with a kid. Except that kids can be taught to do stuff on their own :p
